Forums - Politics Discussion - Trump's Secretary of Defense pick thinks like Batman, but is no puss.

"Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet."

This is a quote from Donald Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense James "Mad Dog" Mattis. Sounds familiar? Batman had a similar aproach to other super heroes.

A few facts about James "Mad Dog" Mattis:

  • Marine troops under his comand gave him the "Mad Dog" nickname after Mattis led the Iraq War's second battle of Fallujah.
  • Mattis is also known as a "warrior monk," a nod to his intellect and expertise as well as his marital status: 66-year-old Mattis has never wed.
  • Mattis fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, where his call-sign was "chaos".
  • Mattis is the guy that convinced Trump that waterboarding wasn't useful. "I've always found, give me a pack of cigarettes and a couple of beers and I do better with that than I do with torture," He told Trump.
  • “They say he is the closest thing to General George Patton that we have.” - Donald Trump on Mattis.

Took some of these facts from here.

This guy also have some interesting quotes. Here is a few:

  • 'There is nothing better than getting shot at and missed. It’s really great.'
  • 'If in order to kill the enemy you have to kill an innocent, don't take the shot. Don't create more enemies than you take out by some immoral act.'
  • 'The most important six inches on the battlefield is between your ears.'
  • 'Engage your brain before you engage your weapon.'
  • 'The first time you blow someone away is not an insignificant event. That said, there are some a**holes in the world that just need to be shot.

Bonus Mad Memes:

The response to this pick has been overwhelmingly positive, some consider it Trumps best pick yet. Of course haters will soon be critical and I can't wait for their highly creative criticism. This time it might be a bit harder but here is an article that calls this cabinet pick uncostitutional. Is not much, but still a good way to get the hate started.

He surprisingly doesnt seem so bad...

Says something if this is his least controversial pick so far.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Thank god someone understands this. Just hope he lives up to this as well. This is the reason why "bombing the shit out of ISIS" wouldn't work. Sure, you might knock out ISIS for a while, but you'd plant the seeds for more extremists and more hatred against us, enuring that the conflict won't end.

He's a very, very good pick. Was kicked out of Obama's administration because he kept asking questions about the deals the administration were brokering with Iran, and the long-term ramifications of appeasement and the results of such. He takes his book collection - over 6,000 works - with him on every deployment.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Mattis seems solid as it seems the only Person Trump respects or likes are people like Mattis.

Perhaps will keep him in check.

Great pick.

He already talked Trump out of approving torture/waterboarding as a means of intelligence gathering.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Probably Trump's best pick so far

So what came first, James Mattis, or Team Fortress 2's Sniper?

You know it deserves the GOTY.
