Forums - Gaming Discussion - Video Games are extremely popular at retail stores right now including the Best Buy where I work

This past Black Friday weekend we have sold so many video games wheather it be PS4, Xbox, Nintendo 3DS, PC parts etc. I'd say almost 25% of our store budget came from Video Games which is a lot considering the fact that we have so many other products such as 4K Tvs, home audio systems, laptops, tablets, phones, headphones/speakers, appliances etc.    And what's interesting is that all kinds of people come in to buy games for themselves, it's not just your average out of shape social reject or the 12 year old brat with his parents.. I've seen young adults, college students, teens, older men/women who come in to buy it for personal use (not as gifts).  So this false stereotype that only "certain" people play video games is false.

Did you personally buy any games this past black friday? OR planning on buying something for the holidays?

I trust no one, not even myself.

I think that stereotype has been dead for sometime now at least for most people cause with Android/iOS and things like the wii/DS, people that weren't playing video games started playing video games.

I did buy 4 jrpgs with psn black friday sale as well as pre-ordered FFXV.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

No way 25% of your store's revenue came from video games. If it did, Home Theater and PC sections are in trouble.

Actually, it does make a lot of sense. Video games or constant turnover items. And the cost of sales of video games is it means of nickel-and-diming your profits. Just think about the number of games you bought each year compared to the number of televisions you but every, let's say, three years.

People of all types play games, just as they have for a long while now.

My father introduced me to gaming before I was even able to play them myself.  I was born in 1980, and he was doing all night marathons with our Atari 2600 as far back as I can remember.  He continued gaming regularly until his death, last year.  He was a white, American, plumber, middle class family man.

I was talking to a client a couple of years ago that was well into his 80s.  He played CoD and Battlefield on PC all the time.  He said a doctor suggested gaming to him as a sort of rehab after he had a stroke.  He got hooked.

My 37 year old wife plays Android games regularly, as does my 12 year old niece.

My 78 year old grandmother plays casual games on PC daily.

So, yeah, the gamer stereotypes are total BS.

good!

physical media is king, or at least still very much demanded.

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5

Nah, it doesn't make sense.  Having worked at Best Buy, the budgets don't break down that way.  The amount of revenue generated by tablets, laptops, and TVs dwarfs the gaming revenue.

It's a good sign for physical games, as I always prefer them over digital ones..
