I'm very curious about the attach rate of third party games on Nintendo consoles. I bet it's less than 1 for the Wii U and less than 2 for the Wii. Furthermore, I want to know the attach rate of third party games that are not "Just Dance" for the Wii and Wii U. I bet that brings the attach rate below 0.5 for other third parties on those platforms. Let's just go with those numbers for a little thought experiment.

To put that in perspective, assuming a 14 million user base for Wii U, that means that 7 million will buy one game that isn't made by Nintendo or isn't Just Dance. Now if you were a third party publisher, what does this tell you about your chances of your game selling well on these platforms? It tells you you're going to have an incredibly hard time even getting 500K in sales no matter what the game.

To put that number in perspective, that's the kind of sales the NHL series gets on Xbox One, and that is by far one of EA's smallest teams working on that game on a very limited budget. Now imagine a much bigger budget, with a much bigger team, with much more at stake. Think of the amount of effort involved in porting a AAA game to NS. Is that worth it if you're going to get 500K in sales? Not likely.

Wii U Hardware sales:
NA = 6.03M
EU = 3.24M
JP = 3.24M

Wii U 3rd Party software:
NA = 11.47M
EU =7.76M
JP = 1.51M

Wii U 3rd Party attach ratio:
NA = 1.90
EU =2.39
JP = 0.46

It looks as if Europe is the ones that is most unfaithful to Nintendo software and in Japan, on average, half of the Wii U owners has not bought any 3rd party game.

For reference:
 Wii U Nintendo software sales:
 NA = 26.87M
 EU =16.51M
 JP = 11.31M

Yikes, that WiiU tie-ratio in Japan..

The games that sold good in Japan were (in order) Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario Maker, Wii Party U, Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario 3D World.
Nintendoland, as the eighth most sold, was not bundled so it sold only 460k.

None of the current generations consoles have good ratios!

You're right, just goes to show how bad console gaming is doing in Japan.

Just Dance: Every fifth (21%) Wii U owner in NA has it and more than every fourth (28%) in EU!
