THANK YOU!!!!

Some people on the internet seem to think that soccer mums, aunties, grandparents etc will be begging Nintendo to be able to buy the Switch like what happened with the Wii. But the Wii was extremely affordable as it was essentially an up-clocked Gamecube with no expensive large LCD/OLED portable 720P screen. Just because a reveal has X million views in Y amount of days does not correlate to day one or even lifetime sales.

It might be a mega success, it might be an utter failure. You can never really tell. The Dreamcast broke US launch records at the time and that console barely broke the 10 million unit barrier AND it had great third party support.

F*ck the Wii

The 'casuals' loved this too and it smashed Wii's sales

Let's see...Launch price of $149, in a world with NO mobile gaming VS. launch price of possibly $299, in a world where casuals have moved over to mobile gaming in large numbers.  Hmmm? Not exactly apples to apples is it?

You are not wrong, but handheld gaming has definately seen a steep decline with the rise of mobile gaming. I think Nintendo is wrong in targeting casuals/non-gamers. I don't think that non-gamers make up a decent percentage of of the PS4's massive success. Casuals and non-gamers(soccer moms, grandparents etc) don't splash out $299+ for a console anymore, at least not in droves of tens of millions. The Wii was an anomaly and prior to tablets and smart phone gaming. I think the majority of people that buy consoles now are people specifically interest in video games as a medium, not someone's aunty.

Non-gamers/casuals have never paid for a console.

They did pay nearly $200 for Brain Training and $350 for Wii Fit with a free copy of Wii Sports.

The most they've paid (if anything) for a mobile game is $5

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Portable Splatoon, in the form of an upgraded port or sequel. as a launch title? 25mil sold in Japan alone by end of 2017 lol

Gaming content for gamers, by gamers. It's just common sense.

I think it could be possible if Nintendo is going all in. Which looks to be the case.

Yea I dont see it happening. You really underestimate the impact of mobile and pc gaming in gaming industry lately

In all seriousness, I think the Nintendo Switch will be a success, possible a big one, but not Wii levels. Japan is probably going to eat it up, and most core gamers in the West will see it as an afterthought. It will pull in some Wii Generation parents just from brand recognition though. It's pitched in a simple, easy to understand manner, like the Wii, and no one has confused it for the Wii's new controller. That's a big success for Nintendo lol.

I think 1 billion is more likely, mate.

The problem with the smartphone userbase is a very small percentage are willing to pay for games, let alone premium $60 games. Not every game is Minecraft, and with game budgets increasing it will be really hard to see AAA games on smartphones anytime soon.

It's also very arbitrary of you to ignore the Wii, another console with only Nintendo first party games. Heck, so many people complaining about the NS being a handheld device, we should compare it with the 3DS, which has fantastic 3rd party support, not Wii U.

At the moment YES.

But if the switch in general will be a success (like selling 10+ mio first half year) people will really fast get used to pay good money for real aaa games if they can play thise on the TV (console like) and on the go as well.

Its not like people wont get skyrim for 25 bucks on the appstore but get a NX and get is for that thing for 25 bucks if the quality is pretty much the same. And i dont think it will take long till we see detachable controllers for iPhones/ipads/galaxys and co, IF the switch is a success.

it probably will.

The 3DS, which wasn't that impressive in itself (although I like mine) may end up crossing the 70 million mark. It wouldn't be THAT impressive for the next partially handheld Nintendo device to retain the 3DS fanbase and then when you add in those interested in the home console aspect....

I think the strongest reason it may end up with quite a large userbase is going to be the game library. People in the past at times who aren't big Nintendo fans seem to be torn- do they buy the handheld OR the home console? in some cases it was literally a decision of buying one seperate game library vs another. And the confusion and decision making I think would cause people to go with neither. It can be daunting, the idea of having to buy two systems to get access to a lot of great big N games

with a unified consistent game release schedule one should expect this system to sell well.

Also price point wise 300$ (or even over) would be perfectly fine, this is a 2-1 device. People spend 700$ on new phones. Be realistic here folks. Adjusted speaking a lot of the older consoles would be like 500$.

The priece wil kill it imo. the 3ds was picked up mainly by kids in age 8-13. You can get a 2ds + game right now for less then 100 bucks. 300-400 is to much for them. The wii u was to much as well.
