Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NS backwards compatibility.

You can try inserting Wii U discs into the Switch. Let us know how that works out.

The trailer pretty clearly showed Nintendo's plan is to resell Mario Kart 8/Splatoon on the NS anyways as "remixed" editions anyway. There's clearly new content/changes in the Mario Kart and Splatoon clips from the NS trailer.

Those games had their sales potential cut off by poor Wii U sales, now Nintendo is going to recoup their oppurtunity costs on those games by charging you $50-$60 for them (again) as well as getting money from those 3DS owners (80% of them) who didn't own a Wii U.

Nah.

It's not like I plan to sell my 3DS nor my Wii U, so this is just inconvenient at worst for me.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Backward compatibility has to be broken eventually if gaming is to progress. It's a necessary sacrifice.

PC is basically forever BC

Yeah no bc is not progressing forward in gaming :s.

I am buying the Switch to be able to play PS4 caliber games on the go. Say what you want, but the ability to swotch between TV and handheld is a huge deal for me.

There is a lot of potential for Nintendo to knock it out of the park with or without BC. However if they did 3DS BC, that would be HUGE.

You.. er... might want to confirm the specs of the console before you can say you can play PS4 caliber games on the go with the Switch. That video go the Switch playing Skyrim was apparently a concept video and doesn't actually mean that Skyrim is coming to Switch

BotW alone is a PS4 caliber game.  The specs only need to be good enough, not better.  This means that the WiiU if utilized properly can play PS4 caliber games.  The Switch plays them better and can be played on the go.

This much in confirmed 100%.  Any extra power we see at this point is a bonus.  It is not that hard of a concept to grasp people.  If a game comes out for PS4 and Switch, I will buy it for Switch by default for the handheld aspect alone.  And anyone who knows me here can tell you I have been pro Sony since the early PS2 era.

The Switch already has what I have wanted for a long time, and I will not downplay it when we already know of at least one "PS4 quality game" coming to the NS that will not even be on the PS4.

I won't lie though, I am eager to see the specs.  I have little doubt that it can handle full 3rd party support while PS4 and X1 are kicking.  What I don't know is how future proof that it is when Pro and Scorpio become the new low end models.  Even if the dock station is just a TV input and charger out of the box, I would not be suprised of later on they did release an optional upgraded dock with suplimental computing to allow for 4K on the TV later on.  This would be a cheaper way to upgrade without replacing the entire console, and the right way to do it IMO.

Look at the N64 with the expansion pack.  They have suprised us before.  Only time will tell though.

You wont be playing PS4 calibre games on the go.  It will be more like slightly better WiiU graphics.

BotW says otherwise.  Even the WiiU can play PS4 caliber games and you can't even play that on PS4.  Nice try though.  😉

To me BotW looks like that indie game RIME for ps4.  I own a WiiU and a PS4 and when i switch between consoles the difference is extremely noticeable. Nice try tho 😉

I'll definitely miss BC because if I ever decide to get the switch I would have to sell my Wii U

BotW  has a physics engine that has yet to be seen in anything the PS4 has to offer.  I own a WiiU, PS4, and an X1.  As a long time member, you should know PS4 is my primary.  The scale of BotW is far beyond MOST of what the PS4 has to offer and will probably be actually surpassed by none that is CURRENTLY available.  Seems pretty on point to me!  Cool story though!  😉

Not retro compatibility, but I would enjoy some classics on a E-Shop, but with better pricing, wiiU prices were not good for retro games, 1 buck or 2 for a NES game is enough, 3 or 4 for a Snes, 5 to 7 N64, 8 to 10 for Gamecube.
there you go, prices that would make everyone super happy.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Why should I know what your primary is? I don't keep tabs on users. I don't care what you own. I only care about the substance of your argument. There are people with more money than sense that have bought consoles and games in the past just to justify talking shit about them. It doesn't mean anything to me what you own or don't own or play or don't play.

But come on. Take a step back .This is a completely ridiculous assertion. You've seen what? 90 minutes of gameplay and you already know what the sacle of the game is? You know how capable it's physics engine is? This game is running on a Wii U. By your logic the Wii U can run Uncharted 4. Come on man, let's keep this a little more grounded.

I hope they put the Wii/Wii U games for digital purchase.
