As far as I'm concerned, Gen 8 has barely even started for me.

and the console hardware is more than capable enough, I hope this gen is another long one.

Its a product of how expensive & how long it takes to develope games now, growing the market size to be able to support the industry is also important. Without a sizable amount of quality games, the entire thing loses meaning, for that to happend you need time + market size to be big.

Just doing quick cycles isnt going to fix that, so hopefully Sony & MS dont start a new gen until 2020/2021.

Definitely gen 7. Wii is better than WiiU. PS3 is better than PS4. PSP is better than PSV. X360 is waaay better than XOne. The only system that might be better generation over generation is 3DS over DS. Sony first party games are less impressive. Xbox first party games are less impressive. "AAA" games in general are less impressive. The good news is that "indies" are arguably of equal quality or maybe better, and Nintendo software is as great as ever.

But, overall, games are getting worse :(

Gen 8. I actually hate Gen 7. The Wii, PS3, and 360 are probably the most boring consoles ever made imo. Everything looks dull and boring. Theres a few gems here and there but thats it. I prefer Gen 8 any day of the week

Let me put it this way: Gen 7 brought me back to gaming after practically quitting the medium.

Gen 8 has nearly made me quit again.

Gen 7 gets my vote.

Wii > Wii U, it just had more games I think is what it comes down too.

Just sayin', but we had to wait seven years before The Last of Us came out... there's plenty of time left for another masterpiece!

I'm hoping we don't have to wait that long *cough cough* The Last Guardian

Okay, so which games did you guys enjoy in gen 7?

So which games made you excited last gen

The highlights for me were:

Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Bioshock, Bioshock Infinite, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda Twilight Princess, Zelda Skyward Sword, Xenoblade Chronicles, Dead Space, Gears of War 1/2/3, Halo Reach, Halo 4, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mass Effect 1/2/3, Monster Hunter Tri, Wii Sports Resort.

Skyward Sword was the shit man. And so many games to play last gen was insane.

Reason I liked Borderlands is because it was a new concept. RPG+FPS, and plus the cyberpunk culture it was so cool.

And honestly I don't really buy consoles from other companies but last gen honestly with Xbox live arcade and all the great games that were coming out it was hard to resist.

Metroid Prime 3 was beautiful too.

Do you think this kind of excitement is going to happen this gen, but just later?

I think NX is going to kick things up a notch, what do you think?

Yeah, Prime 3 showed that even with its underpowered hardware, the Wii could still produce great looking games. I miss the days when Retro pushed Nintendo hardware to the limit.

And it's certainly possible that this gen pick up, but honestly I don't expect it to; big publishers just seem too risk averse these days.

As for NX, its too early to say, as we still don't even know for sure what it will be. It all depends on whether Nintendo are willing to learn from their mistakes.

Imo Super Mario Galaxy takes a big giant sh*t all over Super Mario 3D world. Its a MUCH better game, and there where 2 of them.

The Wii Had Twillight Princess + Skyward Sword..... Wii U has? no zelda yet.

Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii is better than the Wii U version, and it was more original and differnt for its time.

Others Bioshock,Bayonetta,Donkey Kong Country Returns, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Rayman Origins, Madworld, Resident Evil 4, Kororinpa, Last story,....

It just felt like there was more then than there is now.

^ this is why we need long gens.

We need install bases to grow, which takes time + affordable prices, and when they do we get great games.
