Forums - General Discussion - Islamic holiday may potentially fall on 9/11- Edit: it is confirmed to be on 9/12

so what, Islam was not responsible of 911.

I always find it hilarious people separate Radical Islam Terror as not apart of Islam when it justified by people's interpretation of the Koran.

My brother's birthday is on September 11th.  We've celebrated it every year since then.

The Jets first game this season is on September 11th, which is the kickoff weekend for the NFL season.  I'll be celebrating, cheering (hopefully), drinking some beers, and generally having a merry time.

I am quite certain that nobody will ask me to temper my joy out of respect to 9/11 victims.  So, why should Muslims have to?

Like you said there's no risk that anyone in the US would think that your celebrations are about cheering and praising the downing of the towers.

So bringing yourself into the topic was pointless since it had no connection to the issue with the celebrating muslims.

First off, that's not what I said.  What I said is right above if you were unclear.

Secondly, and far more importantly, I don't see the distinction between my celebration, and a muslim celebration.  I had nothing to do with 9/11.  Neither did pretty much all muslims.  So I don't see why either of us should have to worry about celebrating something unrelated to 9/11.  If someone is going to make assumptions based on either celebration, that's their problems.

Whoa there buddy; I just came to report something. I don't want more "Is Islam evuuuul?" arguments. They're annoying, and they always end with two sides that wasted their time talking to each other with a hollow head.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I very much doubt rest of the world besides United States and maybe Canada caring about 9/11 and Eid being on the same day.

Of those two countries, I doubt it would matter in Canada outside of like your conservative radio host.

The States is what is left, and it could very much be made into a bigger deal than it is because 1. Media is stupid, 2. Small groups of people are stupid 3. Media likes putting the light on these small groups of people.

Im Canadian and I'm liberal and I find this deeply concerning if not disturbing. Now we have an extra 25 "refugees" that no one wanted to join these festivities. Horrific what is happening to us now.

So you came to report other consenting adults having a debate because you dont like it, so youd rather try and limit their own free speech when you could just as easily avoid their discussion in the first place? OK.

I think showing restraint in their celebration is not too much to ask for

I think it IS too much to ask for.

If this were a Christian holiday, or a Jewish holiday, or any other holiday, it would be unreasonable to tell people that they should "show restraint" because of a nasty historical event happening to lie on the same day.

Basically, it's like saying "sorry, your birthday is September 11, so you never get to have a real party - you have to show restraint because of some idiots causing a lot of death 15 years ago".

It would be appropriate for those in the US to have, say, a minute's silence for those who died, during their services. That's as much as it is reasonable to ask for. Muslims elsewhere in the world should not be expected to do anything special.

EDIT: But then, this is all hypothetical, as the appropriate "religious authorities" have determined that it will fall on September 12, not 11.

EDIT 2:

You misunderstood - he didn't mean "report" in the sense of "click the Report button to warn the mods about misuse of the forums", but in the sense of "reporting the news that Eid may fall on September 11". He's the topic creator.
