Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: We Don't Discriminate Between AAA or Indie

I definitely hope that Sony continues to invest in great games like No Man's Sky.

Please Sony do tell how any of the games you publish is still an Indie. You might support the Indie market sometimes by making exclusive deals and gibe them some attention at your conferences. But your main focus is AAA games and it should stay that way. As for the discrimination part, since when can someone or something discriminate a product, you can only discriminate a person or a group of individuals based on either looks, race or shared ideology.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Really? What happened to that Grisaia localization you blocked Ryan?

I don't think any of the big three "discriminate" against indies or smaller titles.

Great! Just don't show most of them at e3 and I got no issues... Imo, the last e3 was one of Sony's best e3s ever due to a lack of indie titles shown.

They can show unique indie games with cool ideas like No Man's Sky but please dont bother with the 1000th 8bit indie puzzle platformer that is trying to be special by having a triple jump instead of a double jump...

MS parity clause - http://bgr.com/2015/01/16/xbox-one-indie-games-parity-clause/

MS admitting the parity clause with cringy quotes from Phil Spencer "Millions of people own Xbox One and I want those people to feel like they're first class, because they are"  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-10-10-microsofts-indie-parity-clause-exists-so-xbox-one-owners-feel-first-class

What we do know is that MS has strict parity clauses they've admitted to, to get it removed you have to give them explanation. As far as I'm aware they don't have anything like this in place for AAA budget games. "Sorry Activision, those COD maps that were on PS first, we don't wan't them". You can imagine how a big company would react to that sort of restriction. An Indie developer can be pushed around more and MS exploit this.

think of indie games namesake indie films. These are independent Studio where unknown writers, directors ,cinematographers and actors can showcase their talent. For decades Sony films has been finding, supporting and distributing these indie's. Like a farm league with the talent waiting to come up to the big leagues. it's not always about the money, Sony has shown a willingness to invest in talented people's creative vision ( team Ico and Quantic dream's to name a couple) like no other, Sony has a perspective and belief that is very close to my heart GAMES ARE ART. Whether it is a indie game ( indie film ) or a AAA ( Blockbuster )

The term indie doesn't matter anymore. I've had more fun with fast racing neo than any other racer this gen and no man's sky is flawed but bigger in scale than any AAA game and both of those games are made by like 12 people at random ass no name studios

A few indies would be in my top 20 games of all time. My taste is quite varied which also kinda sucks because I never end up mastering any type of genre. I constantly look for something fresh and indie games offer that to me on a regular basis.

Idk if you are confused as to what the parity clause is or if you're confused as to what discriminate means, but nothing you typed in any way shows Microsoft discriminates AAA from indie. It does however show they discriminate between day one multiplatform titles and moneyhatted games coming later to their console, whether it's AAA or indie or A or AA or anything else.

In fact, even having a parity clause in the first place doesn't make sense if they think less of indies. But there's no point in debating this with you :)
