Yeah, it's really frustrating. I take a long time writing and this has happened to me often. I very much miss that your post would go through if you'd started your reply before the lock.

You can always hit the "back" button and the text would still be there for you to copy.

And on the exploit. Was it that severe to be a worry? If just some guys were able to keep posting it would die eventually, and if you see that it was being used for flaming/trolling you can just moderate the abuser.

I understand that they are necessary. Though is there any possibility of a real time notification for when a thread get's locked or if it can detect if a person is replying to a message. I don't want to come off as if I am complaining, but this is the second time where I replied with a long response to a post. I had about 6 paragraphs in response to the guy complaining about Metroid, which was rather amusing. I was also trying to explain the style of Metroidvania from both a gamer and developer perspective. Why they are a hallmark of game design and precisely why they are designed the way they are. Ugh, I really wished I copied my reply and pasted it for it's own thread so it's partially my fault.

You can't recover the data now, but if you pressed back after you got the error (without closing the page), the message would still be intact. I've come across the 30 sec no posting error, and when I press back it was still there so it's good to know for next time

This website used to be so much cooler. You could still post in a locked thread if you got their before the lock, you could edit posts in locked thread, you could even post on banned people's walls. Hell some people were so awesome that they made posts in threads before the OP even could

You can still edit posts in locked threads ;)

I tried doing that but it didn't work for me. Will it only work on the rich text reply screen? Because it didn't work with the quick reply >.>

I know it's frustrating...since I'm definitely a slow poster myself, and so finding out that you wasted a lot of time for nothing can be infuriating.

I've considered in the past giving threads "lock warnings" 15 minutes before being closed, but I don't believe that will help with your problem, since you won't be reading new posts while you're working on your current post (on top of other issues that would come with such an announcement). So while I sympathize with your problem...we don't have a working solution to it currently.

My advice is to either use a separate word processing program (Word or something similar) to write your post, and then copy+paste that onto VGC, to ensure you don't lose your content, or to copy your content before posting. If you notice an OP has poor intent, or is breaking one or more rules, it's good to take this precaution just in case.

Hope that helps.

When I tried it, it works for both quicky reply and rich text reply.. maybe if you have too much text, it doesn't work?

What about my suggestion of reallowing the reply if you started before the lock and if there are people abusing it you moderate them... because certainly the thread won't continue for much longer after closed anyway so the potential damage is minimal

If you hit "QUICK reply" you shouldn't take 2 hours writing a reply.

I think it's down to the browser and even down to the setup of the browser itself if it is going to store the text like that, realistically to be safe a browser shouldn't save all entered form data for navigation back and forwards like that because someone could sit at your PC and go back to a sensitive page and see all of the information you input (that said I know a lot of pages do keep that info if you "Back" into them) I know Firefox and VGChartz does save your text if you hit back to return after a locked thread message like the OP has gotten.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I accidently copy pasted something and posted it in the wrong thread. Sorry guys. I wished I could have deleted it *sighs* How embarrassing.
