Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is The Hype For Final Fantasy XV Dying?

Honestly and I've said it many times, Square Enix should just give the marketing rights to Sony. Their PR department is a mess. They should've garnered a lot of coverage from E3 but it did nothing(exaggeration but close). Even KH 2.8 anf FFXII Remaster trailers had more views than FFXV during E3. What a disaster.

I think that many old school FF fans would be more hyped if combat looked more interesting. In the perfect world it'd include the option to have either real time or turn based combat (wait mode is nothing like turn based) but fair enough that they wanted to try something new with this specific FF game. Still, real time action oriented combat can be so much more satisfying and deeper than it seems to be here.

BUT I agree with you that FFXV PR hasn't been successful at all. They've somehow managed to hide away all the interesting things. I still think it could end up as an enjoying game though.

I think people are still hyped, but they showed nothing "new" in the e3 presentation. I remember just a few months ago with the "stand by me" trailer my non gamer friends were sharing it in social media. Remember we had big reveals just a few weeks ago and everyone was talking about it.

Game will be big. Lack of evident hype in these weeks changes nothing. What some modern ff haters could say in this thread won't be a true answer to your question since they have a whole different problem with the game that's not related to marketing

at this point they only need to deliver. gameplaywise it should be pretty clear by now, what we'll get in september/october. what's still a questionmark is how the experience will be in regards to story and soundtrack. they haven't shown much in that regard. if it turns out to be a great experience, they don't need much advertisement since the hype will kick in later anyway and if it turns out to be bad, no amount of advertisement will save it. so i guess we'll have to wait and see.

I gotta be honest... The trailer that got me excited the most about FFXV was the one shown at E3 when the game was re-branded from Versus XIII to XV, while Nomura was allegedly still in charge... The Episode Duscae stuff and the Platinum Demo really haven't been living up to the hype introduced by that Demo... It just doesn't look like the same game. But I just don't know, anymore... I'm just hoping to be really blown away by the time the actual game releases...

It's still months away from release...with so much to talk about in gaming right now, people just aren't focused on it.

(Also, if you want to wash the Xbox demo from your memory, try watching someone who doesn't suck at video games play that same fight: https://youtu.be/KaCmM3KTPjk

What are you expecting, the marketing machine isn't gonna start 3 months in advance. Also XV had a big event in March, they sold out +10,000 copies of an edition which costs $279 in a few hours. XV has been on the spotlight leading up to and since that event, why do you disregard that?

They've had a few missteps here and there (platinum demo, SE guy at MS E3 conference who didn't know how to play) but come Sept 30 it will be the biggest gaming news and tons of people will buy a copy. Even if the game has lukewarm critical reception, people will just want to see the game finally, by virtue of having waited so long.

No. People just want to play it, it's been talked about and hyped for too many years and we've seen extensive gameplay for a long time too, there's not much more to discuss, what SE needs and wants to do these last few months is market it to the casuals that haven't been doing what we have, that's where the hype needs to be at a time like this

Huh? Why on earth do so many people here think FFXV is losing steam? I think the exact opposite happened to me. I wasn't so interested a few months ago but then I played the demo and watched some content; now I'm hooked.

Having buzz before release can only amount to high initial sales. If the game is actually good, word of mouth will ensure it has the legs afterward.

The BuShA owns all!

First of all, it's going to sell millions because it has "Final Fantasy XV" on the box. That's a given.

However, the marketing direction with this game is odd. It feels like they're trying to appeal to the west with the same material they're using in Japan. Giant monster battles! Male idols bonding! Seriously, I don't care about either of those things. Instead, show me why I should be invested in the story.

I can't think of anything I've seen that makes me want to play this game. It looks like a teen drama on The CW.
