Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Gamestop Confirms: NX Will Have Physical Media (Probably Carts)

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1236846

Retailer GameStop basically confirmed NX will have physical media that they will sell, it also sounds like it's cartridges though they don't outright confirm it they mention specifically cartridges are better for their resale business, which is a pretty big tip off.

Which is nothing terribly shocking, many people have called 3DS like cartridges for a shared platform for ages now, but it looks like the people who were saying digital only were wrong.

Yay cartridges! I just read this and was thinking about making a thread as well. I agree with you, definitely seems to be cartridges, which is what I wanted. Wonder what Spemanig's going to have to say about this haha.

Shared platform, shared platform, shared platform, shared platform, shared platform...
seriously, Nintendo needs a shared platform. Twice the software output per hardware is necessary to avoid the dreaded droughts.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Discs confirmed.

Shocking.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I would enjoy that. Shouldn't be too hard or expensive to put 32gigs on the size of a 3DS cartridge.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Oh wow.

Wonder what he will say?

Great news, if true!

Starting to get pretty excited about NX :)

Hi, guys, this is Ray Stochel on for Dave. Good afternoon. What level of insight can you share on rumors the new Nintendo console is shifting from disc-based games to cartridges? And if you can't specifically comment on that, can you discuss any historical economic differences between cartridges and discs for the pre-owned business?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paul Raines, GameStop Corporation - CEO [39]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We saw those rumors, and so obviously we can't comment on them. I don't think we know anything about it anyway.

But certainly for us, physical media is a good thing, right? As far as the historical, guys, anybody have any thoughts on that?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rob Lloyd, GameStop Corporation - CFO [40]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't remember anything distinctly different between economics of pre-owned whether or not it was disc or cartridge based. Mike, do you?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Mauler, GameStop Corp - President of International [41]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only difference would be on the refurbishment and pre-owned side. And actually, cartridges are much simpler to refurbish and repackage. So there is somewhat a little bit of an advantage if it went in that direction on used.

Paul Raines, GameStop Corporation - CEO [42]

But it is early, guys, and we have got to all keep cool heads. Certainly I would say that the fact that there are rumors of that type just confirms for you that this is an important console for next year. It will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned business will also play a role. So we're excited about that.

And of course we love Nintendo IP. So it's all good news.

That's the actual transcript. He's speculating. He doesn't know if it has carts and he doesn't know if it has physical media. None of them do. Nothing to see here.

It seems crazy to me that people would still know so little about the Nx this late in the game lol, at the very least you'd expect some "no comment"s by now instead of just honest proclamations of ignorance.
