No, you do NOT need to play drakengard, that game series is a prequel that occurs WAY BEFORE Nier it just sets up the world of Nier but its events dont tie into Nier.

Check this chart to understand the timeline

Drakengard 3 is a prequel to Drakengard 1 and 2 and then WAY later Nier takes place in ONE of the many endings of Drakengard 2, every drakengard has different endings with different possibilities for the future wich means that Nier is just one of the dozens of possible futures after drakengard 3 (the first game in the timeline).

Also Drakengard story is so convoluted that it feels like it doesnt make sense, im not talking about Metal Gear levels of complex story telling but something so weird and hard to understand than even after playing Drakengard 3, 6 times for every one of its endings i still dont know what the f#ck happened at the end... you really dont need to play those games to play Nier, you can treat it as its own independent series.

Also, Nier is the sequel of the true ending of Drakengard 1, not Drakengard 2.

yeah i dont know what happend but i already fixed the image on my original post, but i will post it again right here for you

You should just drag it and open it in another tab to see it full size, its easier to read that way.

And yeah you are right about Nier taking place after one of the endings of Drakengard so i just fixed it in my original post.

What saddens me more than anything is the fact that when 'inevitably' people on forums start to discuss what's available for the PS4 around Christmas, neither this game nor Nioh will get discussed. I'm really disappointed about how forums in general seem to be populated by people who for one reason or another polarise the narrative around particular games and genres when there's a plethora of variety at out disposal.

I think you meant "neither this game or Nioh"

I feel the same way, and even though i know this games aint as popular in the west i do think they deserve some attention at E3 especially if they are exclusive to your own platform, this game deserved to be at sonys E3 conference at LEAST give it 2 minutes of time thats enough for a good trailer, but no... NOTHING.

At least MS gave Scalebound some time on E3 they know that if they have exclusives they better show them, and yeah i know that Sony has many exclusives some of which they dont show on E3 like GT Sport, but they have NEVER shown Nier Automata in any of their conferences, its like they dont care about it and that to me is kind of sad.

Now about the forums mostly focusing on specific games (mostly big AAA western exclusives) i have gotten accustomed to it, at least some of us talk about those games.

The PS4 is actually getting quite a bit of JRPGs for the last quarter of 2016. I'm definitely getting Kingdom Hearts 2.8 in December. For October, it's going to be a bit of a difficult decision for me because out of Exist Archive, Dragon Quest Builders, and World of FF, I don't have any particular leanings. SAO: Hollow Realization is supposedly coming out in Q4 2016, as well.
