Oculus has started a fight it can't win.

Why would you be entitled to play Oculus games with any other headset?

That was silly of him to box himself in like that. Exclusives should come as no surprise, especially if you fund the development of said game. Sony's whole draw for their upcoming VR is their claim of having a ton of exclusives coming.

Oculus should never have made a blanket statement saying they'd never have exclusives... you never know if you'll want to keep a system seller or two for yourself down the road. Consumer relations 101 is to never make guarantees that might make your situation inflexible in the future (which is why answers are so often vague), and this guy basically opened with one of the more restrictive promises he could have possibly made. There is absolutely nothing unfair about wanting to keep a game you funded on your hardware, and he got too caught up going all populist with this statement.

Well, there is the fact that they wouldnt lock their games behind a wall in the first place.

But I think that, more important than anything, the marketed/promised the Oculus Store to be like some sort of Steam for VR games. You could use whatever headset you wanted, and people used the store to buy the games. That way, you make costumers happy making them choose whatever VR headset they want, and Oculus would get their fraction of profit for every game they sold. And if they wanted to give an extra edge for the Rift, they could give exclusive content for the Oculus Rift users, without limiting the game itself for people that wants to use other headsets.I personally think that would be the best solution.

But as it stands, it seems like they want to make the Oculus Rift into a "console"(thats how i understanded at least)

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

VR platforms should not have exclusive software, especially considering it being a new consumer medium, restricting content like that is going to make VR catching on much harder then it already is.

Not sure what the issue is here. Are people complaining about games bought on the Oculus store being locked to Oculus? I presume the same games bought elsewhere aren't locked? Did the Oculus guy actually lie?

I've seen one other vid from Red Dragon and it was full of bullshit and he used rumours and conspiracy theories like facts so take his dramatic take on this "issue" with a pinch of salt.

It really won't make it much harder. VR will either catch on or not regardless of how widespread exclusives are, as most games will still be 3rd party even with the headsets potentially funding their own games.

Exclusives have never actually hurt the medium, they generally just wind up hurting one or more of the participants.

He said Oculus games would be playable and exclusive on every headset that supported Oculus platform. Clearly Oculus wasn't going to make Oculus platform available to their main competition (HTC Vive). I don't know why anyone would believe that.

So he didn't tell any lies?
