Forums - Politics Discussion - Atomic bomb survivors want an apology from Obama.

Seriously, Obama wasn't even born and it was war. There's nothing to apologise for. Will Japan apologise for all the millions of chinese they killed for example? Cmon... war is ugly. Let's try to look past it and strive not to repeat it.
Apologies don't bring people back nor do they erase the past.

Everybody just apologize for what happened in the past and work toward not repeating it. We're all bugger men for acknowledging the fact that we've wronged each other. Move forward and be better to each other.

Yeah, certainly all those civilians like families and such deserved this in every way possible, because that guy who rules your country is a fucking asshole.

They should have dropped a bomb on that guy's head while he is taking a crap. But who knows what would happen then. No one can see into the future and could possibly know the consequences.

But at least, the japanese also have the pride to surrender if they are told to unless some other barbaric assholes in the middle east.

Maybe the civillians of Japan should've told the leaders of Japan should've never attacked us and declare war.  Especially towards a country as strong as us.

Yes maybe they should have because you know in the 40s every person had access to the internet to be able to make a sound decision because there was readily available comparission tables of millitary strengths between coutries.

Not directly speaking, no. However, a nation's people are as a rule responsible for the international actions of said nation. Your leadership is a product of your people, and their decisions are what steer you in international conflict. You don't just get to separate a nations actions from it's people. You don't just get to go along with whatever your government is doing, hope it works out, and then point and condem or plead ignorance if things don't. If a nations people are against a war, and refuse to fight....good luck fighting. Japan itself is responsible for what happened to them in WW2. You can't just separate Japan's actions from it's people and pretend like all it's civilians outside of the military (and btw, these cities WERE military targets) were innocents gathered around a campfire singing world peace. Of course it's terrible when civilians die in war, but it happens, and when your country is the instigator, you don't get to complain about it. It's not like it would help anyway. If those people want an apology, they should demand it from their own leadership for putting them in that position.

Do you know ANY of the backstory of how Japan got into that war. Japan was always a flawed democracy. Before the war, a whole series of coups and disaster struck the country. A military government was formed and the left-wing opposition was either jailed or killed. Everyone who didn't conform was put under the scrutiny of the military police. What could the people do?

As a rule, the leadership is responsible. Heck, In Belgium, we ask constantly to stop the military interventions we are waging on NATO behalf. Does the government listen? No, no and no.

First look at the leadership, then look how far the people collaborate.

I was going to respond to his comment but you did so i'll add to it.

North Korea is a good example.

Does anyone really think people would stand up against their military government lol?

They be dead before they finished a sentence.

If you poke a hornet nest and get stung 50 times, do the hornet's owe you an apology? Even if they sting everyone in your family?

so you are basically saying Americans are not intelligent and can only resort straight to extreme agression?

The leaders and people know United States if a force to be rekon. I believe even one of the Japanese leaders said we just woke the sleeping giant when they bomb pearl harbor. And thanks to us dropping the A bomb, Japan stopped for sure and a lot of countries backed off us as well.

So you're saying you live in a country who doesn't mind getting pushed around? I bet you more than likely live in a country that depends on united states military.

Depending on? You mean the many countries where the elite have deals with the US for bases against the wishes of the population?

The US pushes around a lot more countries then you think.

You don't even have to look that far. Try leaking US intelligence information and you'll be put in jail for the rest of your life (provided they can catch you).

The way japanese government officials are pressuring the current POTUS to apologize is absolutely intolerable ...

With japanese nationalism on the rise, it's unwise for someone like US government officials to apologize on behalf of their past predecessors when it shows weakness ...

One more thing, the defeated don't deserve to demand an apology. That's for the victors to decide in earnest ...
