- Activision responded to the overwhelming negative reaction to the trailer reveal Q1 2016 Results - Earnings Call, transcript:

Secondly, of course we know that there are people in our community who are nostalgic for the boots on the ground style gameplay, and that's why we made Modern Warfare Remastered. But we also have millions of people in our community who want to have new innovative experiences in the game each year and Infinite Warfare is going to deliver that. And the good news is this year we found a way to deliver both in one package while keeping our community together.

And while of course we see the passionate opinions online, we also look at other measurements. And the fact is, while it's very early, preorders are off to a very strong start. Views of the reveal trailer that you referred to are up and, in fact, the number of likes per view on the Infinite Warfare reveal trailer are also the highest we've ever seen. We've seen this in the franchise before. The reveal trailer for Black Ops II, which took the franchise into the future for the first time, had the most dislikes of any reveal trailer we had ever made at that time. And that, of course, went on to become our most successful game ever.

And right now, the franchise has never been stronger. We have more people playing Black Ops III, a game that takes place in the future with boost jumps and fictitious weapons and all the rest, than any game in our history. So what we know for sure is that if we always just did what worked in the past and never took any creative risks, we wouldn't have a franchise. The day to worry is the day we stop trying new things.

Do you think those dislikes are well earned?

They are doing something new. Isn't that what people complain about them not doing enough of?

Since Ghosts or even before, people have been mentioning the idea of more classic style CoD, so WW2 or at least 70s-90s eras. No fancy technology, just classic shooter gameplay. This has grown as each new entry arrives with new fancy technology and gimmicks. So after Ghosts instead of looking at this and thinking "Right, we've got three years to do a new game, let's do a WW2 shooter again." They don't, whatever, and remaster CoD4 (to fill that hole yet it's WW2 everyone wanted) and make Infinite Warfare (playing on the Warfare thing as it's all Activision have).

Except them they announce you can only get CoD4 remasters with the special editions of Infinite Warfare.

Do they not get it?

Black Ops 3 is being played because Black Ops 3 is a great game, I have no idea but how many people are playing Ghosts or Advance Warfare? At one point BO2 had more players than both of those and it was 2 years old.

EDIT: You know what's weird, the idea that they have to make a public statment because of unlikes on a youtube video... how the world has changed.

Hmm, pie.

"But we also have millions of people in our community who want to have new innovative experiences in the game each year"

So how on earth have they manage to sell so much this far? This is literally the least innovative gaming series ever made.

It is possible that a big number of those who complained about COD being more of the same were people looking from the outside, not actual people who care and love the franchise.

Also, perhaps it is something new, but maybe not something that attracts people.

What they just said is: you still preordered our game so deal with it.

I think this downvotes are something to be worried about. The 12 year olds are organizing themselves.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Lol gamers. you do something new and different. they bitch. You don't do something new, they bitch.

I think Activation should just ignore them. I for one haven't bought a COD game in like 4/5yrs.... but that's just cause I'm just tired with the glut of FPS games out there. I would only buy 1 FPS per year. At most two..... and they have to be very different. I think it's the most saturated gaming genre we have.
