Has Star Fox Zero killed the series?

The last few games were also fairly polarizing...and yet the franchise keeps coming back. I do imagine the time between releases will be longer now, with the reception this one has had.

No, I don't think I would go that far. It'll probably just go dormant for awhile before having another game in the franchise. SF isn't one of those series that have sequels made often.

I don't know. I mean, it opened with about 300.000 in its first week worldwide. Not amazing, but it's not horrible considering its on Wii U. We'll just see where Nintendo wants to go from here. You never know. I mean, did anyone expect FE Awakening to be what it was despite Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance's low sales? Time will tell from here.

It's opening week overall doesn't seem that bad with all things considered. But considering how long it took for this game to come out, we probably won't see another one for a while, but that probably would happen regardless unless it sells like gangbusters.

If Adventures didn't kill the series, nothing can.

SF0 has had negative hype since the moment it was announced, and it's objectively a worse game than SF64 (although I do enjoy it a lot), and it still will be a million seller easily. If anything the negative reception but positive sales should show Nintendo that, hey, maybe they shouldn't make Star Fox 1 foe the thirtieth time next time.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

No, it'll easily reach half a million if not a million. And that's by no means a failure.

Not sure if "kill" is the right word.

The game was ehh, but considering the weird turns this series has made, Star Fox should be fine.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

The thing is that the series had consistently declined after SF64.

Star Fox 64 (1997)-4.03 million

Adventures (2002)-1.87 million

Assault (2005)-1.08 million

Command (2006)-0.54 million

Each entry after SF64 did roughly half as well as the previous which caused Nintendo to put the series on hiatus.

If Star Fox Zero doesnt see a notable gain over the last couple installments than it is very likely that Nintendo will have very little interest in continuing the franchise.

Maybe they will give it one more shot, but if the next one doesnt give the series a big boost than it will probably be done for good or at least have another decade long hiatus.
