Star fox Zero is codeveloped by Nintendo and Platinum Games. NINTENDO obviously WANTED that 2 screen "gimmick" feature.

Rendering 2 screesn at 60 fps simoulteansly does need ALOT performance. Thats why STar fox Zero looks like a wii game.

 

So gimmick (dual screens) is more important for Nintendo as graphical look.

smash bros, mario kart and Sm3D World (dont know about Pikmen) are all 60 fps game which just prooves Gameplay > Graphics for nintendo.

It's no so much that being powerful is a sales tool in and of itself, it's more that you can't even be competetive without it.

You either need a miracle gimmick for that to work or it has to be a portable.

One or the other.

Consumers are not stupid, they're not going to buy a weak Nintendo console when they can get a Playstation 4 for $299.99.

It needs to be powerful so that the power issue is moot and people can then focus on other things like the software library.
