I hope Kratos is in 4....as some fiend from a mostly dead 'barbarian' pantheon, maybe tricked by Loki to fight whoever is the main protag of Norse GoW.
Im the opposite. Kratos being in anything other than Greek mythology would feel weird.

Kratos is actually a terribly polarising character, I personally would rather not play as him. I appreciate that he is now iconic to a degree, but the franchise does not need him after GOW3 and I actually think a new hero could actually grow the franchise.
Nothing is confirmed for GOW4, so there is still hope he is not in it :)

Hercules was very nice, I'll give you that. Hades was very disappointing, Cronos was definetely awesome in terms of scale, but as a boss battle... it was pretty flat. Zeus is one of the most underwhelming final boss i've seen in a videogame, on par with the ones in Darksiders II and Metroid Prime 3. And those are horrible final bosses in case you didn't play those games.

So many characters can fit the IP, theres no reason for us to be limited to Kratos especially not if we're going through different mythology. He was great for the series's inception but I think they can grow beyond him, the responses here are telling. I've never seen a protagonist disliked so much.
I would just like the team try, if they can't design a better character and more enjoyable personality then thats fine, they can revert back to kratos.
To clarify I don't need a character to be a good guy, but I should enjoy seeing them on screen and watching their narrative unravel. I found watching Kratos in GOW3 a fraustrating experience, he seems incredibly dumb and vacant. I don't care for his anger, its just noise at this point.
It would just make more sense to have a new character than to continue using Kratos and having to explain how he fits in with the different eras etc..
Kratos is the man, there is no other main character like him. Games need more anti heroes.
