Miis are interesting to use and its a good way to attract the casual crowd to playing Mario Kart wii, So I say YES miis should be in Mario Kart Wii
It increases the chance of casuals and hot girls (or even girls in general) wanting to play the game with me so absolutely!

Exactly what I was thinking :) and in the background should be great and funny :P trying to find your mii in the crowd while racing would be fun
I love using my Mii in games. I use my Mii mostly in Mario and Sonic too, and was disappointed Mii's weren't in Brawl (at least on one level in the background...) and I think a lot of the newer consumers who may not identify with 90% of the characters you can choose from will prefer to use their Miis too.
I think the Miis in MKwii is a good touch
