Just found this thread.  Did you actually say that you think Avatar was better than SWTFA?  Have you seen SWTFA?  I think that Avatar was a good show, especially for its time(the 3d elements).  But, Avatar doesn't really have the "watch again" and enjoy it quality to it.

I saw SWTFA the day it came out and plan to take my kids this weekend.  It has a much more long term watchability.  With that said, I only thin that SWTFA is only a 7 out of 10 movie whereas Avatar was a 5 or 6.

Yeah, this. I liked Avatar when it came out, but... I dunno, it was more of an event than anything else. Nothing about it screamed "watch it again". One of the problems is that it feels really long :S I've tried rewatching it a few years back but couldn't, it doesn't help that it's also a bit on the slow side and I've never really had a person ask to watch it like they do for a Star Wars movie. But idk, its just an observance I had. I completely forgot about Avatar until recently when JW was breaking records XD

I agree. In my mind is that 3D movie (very beautiful, indeed) with blue people but without any memorable about that. I can't remember a single character of the movie. Maybe somebody called John Smith? XDDD

I remember the main dude's name is like Jake Sully and there's a cool alien horse XD I don't think it transitioned well into home media. It was a movie made to be seen on the big screen in 3D. Not to be watched on a regular tv without 3D

The numbers are impressive. The movie... not so much.

Jake Sully. JS. John Smith. Pocahontas. Yeah, makes sense XDDD.

[The Worldwide total doesn't included China. It hasn't released there yet.]

Are you kidding me? I bet it was released in China before anywhere else. Only not in the theaters that report back earnings to the industry's beancounters.

Holy shit that blew my mind o.o XD I've noticed that both Avatar and SW7 suffer the same problem. Both are retellings of already well known stories (Pocahontas and SW4+5). My preference is SW though, I like the creatures and lore behind it more. Avatar is fine, but it is just Pocahontas and I was never really into the story v.v but I won't bash anyone for liking it, different strokes for different folks as the saying goes

[But more importantly can it beat the piece of crap called Avatar. 2.7 billion]

The Avatar was a truly original, beautiful movie. This one... Chaper IV redux but not half as good. I cringed at the sorry sights of fat and aging Leia, grandpa Solo and cat-got-his-tongue-Luc.

If Avatar is a pice of crap then so is Star Wars The Force Awakens. Avatar is FAR better! And it BETTER NOT beat Avatar. I'm counting the days....

I enjoyed SWFTA far more than Fern Gully 3D and I will be seeing it, at least, once more in theaters. Fern Gully 3D was also a media spectacle, because no one had seen Fern Gully in 3D yet and most people had not seen almost Advent Children quality CG yet (which is odd, because they had 4 years to antcipate Fern Gully 3D's graphical downgrade). It will be interesting to see if Fern Gully 3D 2 is any good, because they never made a sequel to Fern Gully.

I must admit I've never thought about it until now xDDDDD. Yeah, SW7 is a retelling of SW4, but the characters and dialogue are way better in TFA than in Avatar. I can't honestly think about anything relevant or fun about it. While I will always remember the BB-8 cuteness, the natural relationship between FInn and Rey, and: B-8 thumbs-up and Han Solo's death.

I'm much more into character-driven stories than visual fests, and that pretty much made the deal for me.
