Forums - Sony Discussion - Question for someone who has never played FF7

What should I do?

Play the original, then the remake 71 61.21%

Wait for the remake 45 38.79%

Total:116

Hey guys, so as you might know I never really had any non Nintendo systems in my life up until now, as I just ordered my PS4 a couple days ago

Now, about FF7. I know the remake is coming out , but do you think I should go and play the original, or just wait for the remake?

I know the graphics haven't aged very well, but how about the gameplay of the original?

Thanks

I think the new graphics will change the atmosphere of the game quite a bit, and there will be plenty of other changes that will no doubt change the game drastically. And it probably won't be released until 2018. The game is still very good, and you should experience it if you're an RPG fan.
The part of the graphics that haven't aged well are the character models outside of battle. In battle they look ok. And the backgrounds outside of battle still look great today, since they are pre-rendered images rather than in game graphics.

BraLOD played it for the first time earlier this year and made a topic reviewing it: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=198307&page=1

Music: Masterpiece
Gameplay: Great
Story: Really Good
Graphics: Mixed, between Good, Great and Impressive (gameplay, backgrounds and CGs)
Difficulty: Enjoyable yet Challenging at some points

Overall 9.5/10
I simply loved the game and I understand why it's one of, if not the favority game of a lot of you guys. I strongly recommend it if you have not played it!

I never played FFVII back in the day, tried a few years back and hated it. Thing is I love the FFVII movie and so I crazy hyped for the games remake.... so yeah I'd say wait, it really hasnt aged well imo.

If you do decide to play it, get the PS4 port that was announced last year at PSX. The trophys leaked for it so it must be coming out soon.

That's what I was planning to do if I did end up getting the original

If it serves as an example, I only played it this year.

The graphics are just okay, they won't bother you unless you are picky with this kind of things.

It's a really nice game, and I would recommend it to you play it asap, so when the Remake come you can compare both, and even if you don't want it, the music alone on that game is more than worth it, it ringing bells to you once the Remake hype takes place will be better than you getting everything new there.

Seriously, the music on that game... just do it.

Lol my review is being quoted, feels nice I must say XP

I say, go back and experience it for yourself. The remake will undoubtedly change a lot from the original. It's a classic. Besides, we won't get FFVII Remake until 2017 at least. And as BraLoD said, you HAVE to listen to the music of that game. It's one of the few soundtracks where I can listen to the entire thing without wanting to skip a track. Do yourself a favor, play FFVII. It's available on PS1+2 via BC, PS3, PS4, PSP, PC, Steam, and emuCOUGHlation. There's no reason a JRPG or RPG Fan in general should miss out on this gem.

if you doesn't hate turn base battle, FF7 definitely one of the best JRPG classic worth playing...

Play the original and then when the remake comes out - play that.

Trust me, you will never experience something like FFVII again - the remake will more than likely be completely different in terms of gameplay and will be different in design/visuals.

There's more than one way you can play the game - you can play the PS1 version if you have a PS1, PSP/Vita via the PSN Store, PC via Steam, iOS and of course the upcoming PS4 version.

Doesnt matter which one you choose - they will all be the same except for controls and achievements.

I played the original FFVII about 10+ years ago on my PS2 and am playing the Steam version right now :)!
