As far as quality, Pikmin 3. I've always really liked the series, but I never expected the third installment to be as superb as it is.
Regarding sales, Splatoon.
I was surprised at how well Until Dawn sold. Surprised how disappointing the campaign was in vanilla Destiny. Surprised how MGS5 turned out - had someone told me beforehand there'd be very few cinematics, I'd have laughed them off.

Good surprise = Dragon Age: Inquisition. The 2nd one was so awful that I quit playing after the first day. I played Inquisition from Black Friday 2014 up until The Witcher III: Wild Hunt was released. That's a good 6 or 7 months. Great game!
Bad surprise = PS+. There's no more saying "It's still going, give it time." The fact that I have to play to play games online is the only reason I subscribe. But I think Sony knows this. Genius (and shady) marketing to say the least.
PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS
A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!
