Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bold Prediction: Uncharted 4 won't be as good as Rise of the Tomb Raider (Metacritic)

Playing RotTR now and I am just amazed by how good it is. And it keeps getting better!  The sense of scope, the progression, the exploration, the puzzles. I love it!  Now Uncharted 4 will sell much more. It will definitely have funnier moments.  Better graphics, too.  I don't think it will be able to beat Tomb Raider when it comes to level design, gun play, puzzles, and scope.

So there. I said it.  I predict that when Uncharted 4 releases, it will be reviewed less favorably than RotTR.  We'll see in a few months....

You can't predict something you have no idea; you didn't play U4 so your Thread does not make any sense.

Two things

1) You can't claim the OP isn't allowed to make a prediction about a game he hasn't played when you make a prediction about that exact same game literally one post before.

2) Of course you can predict how well a game you haven't played will be reviewed/what it will be like, especially if you know the general outline of the game and have seen what the game looks like. The whole Metascore prediction league is entirely based off that notion.

To be honest, while the Uncharted series had a better metacritic than the reboot of Tomb Raider, i found Tomb Raider better than Uncharted. It really felt more like you were fighting for your life, the exploration was superb(which in Uncharted there is next to none), and the combat overall was better. The only thing that uncharted does better than Tomb Raider, in my opinion, is the story, but not by much. And while i think I will like more Rise of Tomb Raider than UC4, I dont think Rise will score better than it.UC4 seems to have learned a thing or two from Lara, and looks like the world will be more open now, and the combat seems more engaging. We will need to see, but i find it hard for it to score 86 or lower

This is ironic sense the best things about the new TR came from Uncharted, including the combat. I did enjoy the reboot, but only because it reminded me of Uncharted. However it was no where near as good. The serious tone compared to the former caricature style of the old Laura, the narrative and world design were all similar to Uncharted.

TR even copied a lot of ideas from U2 and U3 for RoTR, but always over blow the set pieces. TR lacks an interedting story with irrelevant plots and boring characters. Laura herself is not interesting and seems forced doing things that no ordinary woman could possibly do such as brutalizing grown men, trained soldier's in fact and it loses its appeal because none of it is believable.

The brutality in the combat is way to over the top and becomes laughable compared to Uncharted's finely tuned melee combat and situational grappling that U3 built and TLoU later improved on, which will be further refined in U4. The physics, animation, shooting mechanics, characters, puzzles, environments, enemy A.I. and movement of Uncharted are far superior. Even RoTR does not compare to Uncharted trilogy. TR even used an artist from Uncharted this go around thus making it even more unoriginal than the previous entry.

Uncharted actually has varied combat since it has a cover system and allows you to shoot from mutliple angles while climbing on the environment around you, while TR is all horizontal and straight forward. It get's repetitive, especially the same over used choking stealth kill and pick axe to the neck. An open worls is useless when there is nothing interesting happening and the NPCs are boring as is with TR and it is far from emersive when all you do is un around killing animals and looking for GPS coordinates or similar treasures lol.

The Tombs don't even provide a challenge so they are not worth looting. Uncharted also allows you to use a variety of weapons instead of locking you into the same four weapons that can only be customized but so much. Uncharted is just a better built game in everyway period and the engine destroys TR's engine. TR is a good game, but Uncharted has always been the standard since it first released.

The most important thing Uncharted does better is the main character. No one can dispute that Nathan Drake is a much better character than laura Croft. before Uncharted came Laura was cartoonish, shallow and only known for her pare of cannons and I am not talking guns. FYI Uncharted is not a survival game so why would you need to feel like you are fighting for your life? It is an action game and does it much better than TR. Even then, Bate still feels more human than the automaton that is Laua Croft.

Have you read the definition of the word "prediction"? I played RotTR and I've seen plenty of footage from U4 and I've played all of its predecessors.  You say I can't make a prediction. I say I CAN.  Am I right?  Maybe.  Maybe not.

Before beginning, let me state again that this is my opinion. The matter wether UC or TR is critically better is of no interest, since opinion is subjective.Ah, and its Lara, not Laura. If you are going to trash a game, at least get your facts straight.

First, while the reboot was indeed inspired in Uncharted, Uncharted himself was inspired in the original Tomb Raider games. So using that as a negative point is idiotic, as a lack of better word.Every single game has inspirations elsewhere, but that dosnt make them less worthwhile and dosnt take away the originality or enjoyment out of it(of course, if the game is not a straith out copy of the source material)

Second, the story is really good.Again, wheter I liked it more than other games is subjective, but you see that Lara grows along the adventure, you see things like needing to kill someone to survive in order to survive, all in all is really good. And I find it extremely ironic that while you think that Lara couldnt pull that off(killing trained soldiers and surviving all of the islands trials), which if it was real life I would agree, for Uncharted, Nathan drake, is all ok?Just because he is a man, and has the natural strenght of a man, he can pull of the things he do, like killing hundreds of hundreds of trained mercenaries, jumping off of a plane without parachutes and surviving, and all the things he does? This is supposed to be a videogame. We want it to be fun and engaging, not realistic. If it were, both  Lara and Nathan should have died in the first 30 minutes of the game.Dont be biased.

Again, both games are extremely brutal, so I dont get why TR brutality is unbelivable and over the top, while Uncharted brutality is not.Again, you survive falling off a plane without parachutes!Jumping betwenn crates! How can that not be over the top?And why using an artist from Uncharted is bad?I dont get where are you going with this. And yet again, my post was an opinion, but I just find combat, enviroment, puzzles and the game in general better than Uncharted. Not far better, as you state again and again and again.I just found it more enjoyable.

Now, saying that Uncharted combat is varied and all, but TB combat is horizontal and straight foward is pure and simply ignorant. We dont know much about UC4 since the game hasnt released yet, but in other Uncharted you could only carry 2 guns at the same time and some granades. In TB, you could carry more than 4(cant really remember how many), plus the bow had many modes, be it imbued with fire, with poison(in ROTB), and even used as a puzzle mechanism. And saying that the world of TB is repetitive and boring while UC isnt is again ignorant at least, since UC is quite straight foward, while TB has more breaching paths.

And I wont even comment on the last paragraph.Actually, I dont even know why i commented this, since you are obviosly trolling with TR, or at the very least is a UC fanboy, since the only thing you know is to bash TR and ignore all of its qualities and praise UC like a god, as if it were the definition of perfection.Well, i guess thats better for me, since I can enjoy more games than you!
