Interesting. How does the original Tomb Raider reboot compare to Uncharted 2 and 3 for you?

Because for me Tomb Raider was excellent, a 9 out of 10, but the Uncharted games are fucking 10 out of 10 masterpieces. So it's highly unlikely it flips around this time. I'm waiting for ROTR on PS4 but I'll buy it day one for sure.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

In my opinion, TR 2013 is a 9.5/10

Drake's Fortune: 8/10

Amongst Theives: 9.5/10

Drake's Deception: 9/10

Golden Abyss: 8/10

Keep in mind TR came out a while after the Uncharted games so it had the opportunity to improve over them.  I'd play it before any PS3 Uncharted game.  Uncharted 4 and RotTR will be released fairly close together and both companies seem to be bringing their best.  It'll be a closer call, I'm sure.

With Uncharted, you're looking at a studio who's dead set on making the last game as epic as it can. All their motivation is focused on that one goal so no... I just don't see how it won't be a better game. If it's not, I'll be mighty shocked.

Yes, its refreshing to have a conversation about this that isn't hostile. You should've seen how bad it was on VGChartz when the reboot came out two years ago. Good lord. LOL I have both consoles so I play both. I can definitely see now why Microsoft invested in the new Tomb Raider thinking that Uncharted was going to launch in fourth quarter. Well played. Two great franchises.

Never had a Xbox before, but Im really tempted to get one now. With Scalebound and recore, and all the other exclusives, i really want to get one.I just dont buy one because i have no money to buy it and to sustain 3 consoles at a time. But yeah, it was a great deal by microsoft!

I have all three now and it's really just too much. I don't have the attention span, let alone the money to handle this many games and it's a total waste imo. It's so bad, that I'll probably end up boxing at least one of the two (Xbox One or PS4) up from time to time just so I can focus in on gaming.

Ok, imo, the only aspects TR was better than the latter Uncharted games (always referring to 2 and 3, ignoring the others)  at, was exploration and puzzles. Maybe the climbing/traversal ends up more enjoyable because of those.

Oh and gameplay progression. The skills and upgrading weapons and shit. However Uncharted doesn't need that at all either.

But in other aspects like graphics, gunplay, set pieces, story writing/telling, characters, attention to detail, Uncharted CRUSHES Tomb Raider.

This is of course my opinion, but I guess if you enjoy more TR's stronger parts, I can understand if you enjoy it more overall.

I don't see any of this changing between ROTR and 4, so for me U4 would have to be a major dissappointment so that ROTR comes close.

Tomb Raider is not so high in Meta, just 86 or 87 I believe; so it will be very easy for U4 to be higher, I think in the range 92-94, knowing Naughty Dog, and it has MP whch offers so much more longevity.

Playing RotTR now and I am just amazed by how good it is. And it keeps getting better!  The sense of scope, the progression, the exploration, the puzzles. I love it!  Now Uncharted 4 will sell much more. It will definitely have funnier moments.  Better graphics, too.  I don't think it will be able to beat Tomb Raider when it comes to level design, gun play, puzzles, and scope.

So there. I said it.  I predict that when Uncharted 4 releases, it will be reviewed less favorably than RotTR.  We'll see in a few months....

You can't predict something you have no idea; you didn't play U4 so your Thread does not make any sense.

To be honest, while the Uncharted series had a better metacritic than the reboot of Tomb Raider, i found Tomb Raider better than Uncharted. It really felt more like you were fighting for your life, the exploration was superb(which in Uncharted there is next to none), and the combat overall was better. The only thing that uncharted does better than Tomb Raider, in my opinion, is the story, but not by much. And while i think I will like more Rise of Tomb Raider than UC4, I dont think Rise will score better than it.UC4 seems to have learned a thing or two from Lara, and looks like the world will be more open now, and the combat seems more engaging. We will need to see, but i find it hard for it to score 86 or lower

Is it always better though? I think that the linearity in Uncharted was a good thing, if you start wonderng of you'll lose the immersion and grip on the story. The same thing happened with Metal Gear Solid V, but that game has tons of side quests which justify the open world.

Well, its a personal preference. The semi-open world of TR makes it more immersive for me, though I have to agree tha the story overall in Uncharted is better

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
