Did Nintendo knowingly lie about the intended release window for Zelda Wii U?

My Nintendo would never do such a thing 14 19.44%

How dare you 6 8.33%

Yeah probably 35 48.61%

You really think Nintendo would do that? 12 16.67%

Just go on the Game Awards and tell lies? 5 6.94%

Total:72

Well, if a company lies about intended release dates, but still produces clean, near bug-free software at launch in this day and age, I will not complain.

Also I still prefer the theory that it was delayed so it could also be released on NX. That would also explain why they put it to TBD first, because they were still deciding whether they could and should release NX in 2016.

Nah.

I think they were expecting tantalus to finish twilight princess quickly, maybe end of 2014 to early 2015 similar to the turn around of Wind waker HD and still have Zelda Wii U for holiday 2015.

I suspect - going by the track record of tantalus (that is to say they are mix big of shit and decent), plus this being is their biggest project to date, plus Australia being a poor talent pool for the gaming industry and the high demands of Nintendo, that it took the team longer than expected to churn out twilight princess HD.

It just so happens that Zelda Wii U was delayed as well.

I don't think there is a conspiracy theory or Nintendo intentionally lying

The thing your wrong about though is Australia being a poor talent pool , you only have to go back through gaming history to developers like beam software , Melbourne house  ,Irrational, Pandemic and too many more to mention, it was this wealth of talent that had EA and the other big players clamouring to open studios there.

Sure that hey day has past, but that has happened pretty much globally since the gfc , you just have to look at the UK and all the  studios that no longer exist

there , it just means the work has dried up especially for studios not the talent.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to play around with the timing of release and whatnot in general.

Makes you wonder why the hell Nintendo chose the studio behind Funky Barn, Pony Friends, and Spongebob Squarepants: The Yellow Avenger to remaster the second highest selling Zelda game in the first place. Surely there were better candidates.

And yeah, the state of the industry here in Australia is tragic; the 7th gen wiped out nearly every non-mobile developer in the country, it was an absolute massacre.

Cause' they are pretty good at porting, not at original content.

Even then, their ports are generally of low profile games.

Not really, if you consider that it's "sister" company had done two of the best AAA WiiU ports out there.

Tantalus began hiring for their then-unspecified Wii U port in January... 2014. There are multiple sources agreeing on this, although the original links are dead.

Is this the source ?  (from 2014, January - courtesy of waybackmachine)

"Contract Engine Programmers. We are about to start a new AAA Next-Gen title in January 2014, and are looking to fill two positions."

Deus Ex and Mass Effect 3 were decent ports, but they were made by Straight Right, not Tantalus.
