Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Revisited: "Nintendo fans are predictable" - Now in compliance with forum rules

It depends how much you guys were fucking expecting from the direct.

I kinda knew what stuff what we are going to get <---- which is more info/trailers/release dates for already announced games. Don't you guys know that is what e3 was for? Oh that's right, you want Nintendo to announce new games on their directs before e3. So when e3 comes, there won't be huge surprises.

Also, if you guys want NX to come already then you shouldn't expect more new games for the Wii U and the 3DS. Especially how Nintendo isn't that big, especially how the NX could be releasing in 2016/2017 their man power on the current consoles have reduced.

And everyone has different thinga that can excite them. Someone may already be pleased by a picture of a new Metroid game, and someone may be pleased for a new dlc on their favourite game.

Soooooooooooooooo its not our fault that you guys are underwhelmed by this. While I am sooo HYPED for 2016!

Not a good argument, coming from a fan of Skyward Sword.

Skyward Sword, a game with actual hype that most Nintendo fans wanted to see and asked for. But you shouldn't talk about certain games, specially about "meh" games.

You really want to turn everything into something personal, don't you?

My point regarding Skyward Sword was that if you judge by sales, then SS wasn't the game that most Nintendo fans wanted to see. After all, the game sold low by series standards.

I'm not the one that mentioned the tastes of the other one. But the sales talk is pretty interesting. You are right, Skyward Sword sold low by series standards, but nobody can't deny the hype behind it. Unfortunately, people didn't liked, like many other games in other series that sold low, specially after the heighs that their predecessors reached last gen.

um what's skyward swords sales figures? Cos I'm pretty sure Nintendo only released 2 days worth of sales data? And that was over 4 million if I remember rightly

This direct was a shame for WiiU players, but it's quite normal since they are stopping development of software on WiiU

The real problems are these:

-TP HD is a lazy, overpriced port.

-Starfox is still not meeting player's expectations, and still doesn't have online multiplayer.

-10seconds of Zelda WiiU? After a year of silence? 10 fucking seconds? And you don't even release the footage in high quality?

-Who gives a shit about a new smash bros fighter when they are priced 6 euros?

So yeah, the WiiU is a disappointment overall, but instead of going out with a bang, it's going out with a shitty remaster, a rushed starfox game, a disappointing pokemon fighter game, overpriced DLC for smash bros, tons of amiibos, a useless Animal Crossing game, and A Zelda game that is going to be released on the next console anyway.

One good thing though: Xenoblade :)

I only said that to make you realize that your argument isn't good. You want to use sales to show that people did not want certain games, but it's not that simple. Because of that, you now use hype as the measurement to judge Skyward Sword.

I'm not denying Skyward Sword flopped. But I can't say people was not excited for SS. And the content in the E3 was not exciting, which is the point of this thread, isn't? To point how when we have a game we like to hype, overshadow our jugdment and see "great" things where there aren't. Like this direct and the Zelda games, that just like Skyward Sword, get all the hype, and because of that we believe they have a great presentation.

Of course sales has also prove that SS was the wrong type of Zelda game the majority wanted, something that was not decided before the release, but after, when the mentioned fanbase played and didn't like it. Now, to compare with SS we have Other M, a game that people also wanted to play, until reviews start to come and once again, fanbase decided that it wasn't the type of game they wanted for next Metroid, like Federation Force, but this time the first footage was enough to judge it.

But you are right, in this case I can't mention sales without factoring other things, like hype.

By the way, Skyward Sword is the fastest selling Zelda game ever. For sure it was hyped that game:

They never updated, it was low compared to for example Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time, and I believe it didn't sold as TWW.

I am a Nintendo fan, and I really didn't care about Zelda TP HD or Smash in this direct. I did enjoy seeing a bit of Zelda Wii U, but only because I think the art style is awesome, and I thought Epona looked really good. Lack of anything else about it was disappointing, though. I liked seeing some more Star Fox gameplay, info/gameplay for Fast Racing Neo, the Splatoon stuff, and even though I don't have a 3DS, I thought it was cool that DQ 7 and 8 are coming over. And even though her name is really stupid, the introduction of "Linkle" also made me more interested in Hyrule Warriors than I've ever been before, because I like her combat style. That made it pretty good (not great) for me.

So your theory essentially boils down to, when Nintendo comes with their big guns, people react positively, and when they don't, people are underwhelmed by their line-up. Umm...well yes, obviously.

Wrong.

Nintendo could have a presentation with the likes of Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and 2D Mario (all big guns), and it still would be considered underwhelming. On the other hand, ten seconds of a new 3D Zelda seem to be already half of what's needed to save any show.

E3 2012 and 2013 are good counter-examples to your oversimplification of my theory. In 2012 Pikmin 3 (a low-selling IP) was declared to be Nintendo's only noteworthy Wii U game while the new 2D Mario game didn't matter. In 2013 Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze were received with a lot of hatred, because one wasn't a "real 3D Mario" and the other was a 2D platformer.

In the current case, the presented content between E3 2015 and the recent Direct didn't change much, yet the two presentations were wildly different perceived. I get that someone would say that the recent Direct was better than E3, but to say that one was awful while the other one was great is too big of a disparity.

I disagree, I think a presentation with Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and 2D Mario would be well-received - not by all of course, but by a big segment of the Nintendo fanbase. Sure, NSMBU didn't generate much hype - but that's because it looked basically the same as any other NSMB game. Tropical Freeze meanwhile looked exactly like DKC Returns.

And also, your last statement doesn't take into account the differing expectations of the two events. The fact that it's even possible to say that last week's Direct was better than E3 shows the magnitude of the E3 failure. E3 is traditionally the biggest event by a long, long way for Nintendo reveals, in a typical year.

I agree with you Rol every step of the way. Bring a River City Ransom type game or even a Bad Dudes reboot and any Nintendo system may grab my attention

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.
