September:

As expected Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was the best selling game of the month, with the PS4 SKU topping the chart, this also marks the first time a PS4 game has been #1 on the SW side.

Plenty of new releases for all systems, as well as the 5 weeks of counting, made September a very good month for everyone, all hardware but the 3DShf sold more than the previous month and all sustained the software sales as well, regarding the sofware sales, I mentioned that WiiU had been pushing more software than the PS4 for a few months, but that is now over, due to the positive month PS4 is now ahead of software than the PS3 and is second only to the 3DS; a far, far second as the 3DS has moved nearly as much software as all the other platforms combined. Keep in mind that this is only adding the data given by Famitsu, the actual PS3 sw numbers ought to be higher, but it's impressive for the PS4 anyway. WiiU has also built a nice niche on its own, it's the console with the far least games, depending on how it performs during the holidays it could end very close to the PSV.

Going back to individual software, the usual suspects, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Yokai Watch Busters, Splatoon and Minecraft all kept performing well. Super Mario Maker enjoyed a great first month too, the game should keep tracking along nicely for the rest of the year, apart from that is also impressive the results for Tokyo Xanadu as it's only one week, expect it to see it there again next month.

On hardware the PS4 ended up on top, the big news hardware wise was it's price cut and due to it the system had 2 great weeks, with the other one being the release week of MGSV, how the new price affects it's performance will be more telling next month, but for now it had a very positive result. 3DS, PSV and WiiU all did alright too.

What to expect next month?

As said before, how the PS4 performs will be the most interesting, as October will be a relatively quiet month otherwise; interesting will also be how the WiiU keeps doing, while it's got a new bundle it's now just ~$17 cheaper than the PS4 which could hinder it's performance, the system is getting no releases for the whole month so it's up to Super Mario Maker, and once again, Splatoon to carry the system.

While it'll be mostly a quiet month in terms of releases during the end it's getting some notable games, PSV is getting God Eater: Resurrection on the 29th (4 days of tracking), 3DS is getting 7th Dragon III: VFD code on the 15th (18 days) and The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes on the 22th (11 days).

That's not all of course, titles like FIFA16, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and God Eater: Resurrection (PS4) should also do good, but the 3 titles mentioned before should be the ones to keep an eye on.

God Eater Vita should be the best selling game of the month, which would be the first time a Vita game was #1 in a very long time, PS4 should keep the pace and be #1 on software.

Halo 5: Guardians might make it to the weekly top 30 once ot twice too.

This chart is the same as last month, Dragon Quest VIII and Splatoon switched places, but that's it. MGSV and or Super Mario Maker might join it next month.

Don't expect MGS to go any higher than what it is now.

Minecraft will be topping the chart next month, God Eater: Resurrection and Tokyo Xanadu should both join it too.

Not only did it top this chart, but MGSV is also now the best selling PS4 game.

Chart also identical to last month, don't expect changes till November.

We finally have 5 games here, Halo 5 might join it next month, Forza 6 got really close.

Yaah, really interested in how the PS4 will hold over the next few weeks. Will it be a short term boost, or will it be a long term sizable boost to the baseline? (Hoping for the latter of course).

Also "interesting will also be how the WiiU keeps doing, while it's got a new bundle it's now just ~$17 cheaper than the PS4 which could hinder it's performance"

Damn, it's insane that the Wii U is just 17$ cheaper! Like wooooowww

this is an awesome, informative thread. thanks for all of the info and nice formatting!

Hi

Good work! I've seen lately that the Wii U has been passed by PS4 when it comes to launch-aligned sales numbers, too.

I wonder how the Wii U will hold in October, everything "big" for it releases in November...

Much better numbers this month, thanks to the 3DS.

Kylee, what do you think Splatoon will sell LT in Japan?

Too many variables to be certain.

It depends on what this year holiday bundle is and weather or not the WiiU gets a price cut.

Its not going to be lower than 700k though (I'm expecting it to sell that this year).

Reading some of the older threads ran into this.

Well SkullFace, is already higher than 700k.

November should be an good month for WiiU, it's getting a whole 5 games released, considerably higher than the 0 for October.

And yes PS4 is finally higher than WiiU launches aligned.

Wii u is doing really well and PS4 SW sales seem to be slow considering the ps4 has almost double the games wii u had and its only out selling it software wise by a few 100k. Well xbox one is just not very good but at least halo is doing okay for what x1 is selling there.

good the PS4 is taking over Japan

Saw it on the GAF thread for the Japan Sales week ending 03 October. I went there because of hiska-kun's sell-through percentages, so yeah.
