Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony may consider "options" for smartphone unit if no profit next year

They should make Microsoft pay them to make Windows Phones.

Imagine Xperia devices capable of streaming PS4 games and playing on XBL on Windows Phone!

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It'd be a damn shame to seem them go, can't go back to a non waterproof phone :/

I'd probably go HTC or Samsung, probably Samsung.

Sadly it looks like HTC and Sony(whom I think make the BEST phones) will continue to go un-appreciated by the masses. Build quality and features are amazing on their phones.

Oh no, i hope they profit nxt year on their smartphone so they can continue making them. I really love their experia series. IMO they make the best phone in the market.

This will be a real shame if Sony stopped making mobile phones. They certainly make some amazing phones.

The main problem is that the market Sony are finding themselves is getting smaller by the year. The premium/luxury mobile phone market is first and foremost split between Android and iOS, it looks like iOS is making more inroads into eating into that market more than Android is at the moment. Whatever marketshare is left is split between Android manufacturers who provide phones classed at premium. That is getting more populated with the push in from other manufacturers that werent around a few years ago. Hence there is less going around. I don't think it will be long before we have a handful of manufacturers in the Android space as there just isn't enough money being made.

Maybe Sony should partner with Google for their next Nexus phone or move to Windows.

I think Sony should just follow what Xiaomi does. Dont bother with ads, dont bother with store distribution.

We are at the point that the ppl who want an Xperia will buy it directly from an online Sony store. This will allow the devices to be cheaper too since you are cutting out a big chunk of other spending areas that contribute to the overal price point of the phones.

I actually think Sony can keep Xperia going, even if only on a niche market, this way.

Rebrand it a playstation phone, to help it along.

Design it so that its well suited (layout wise) for mobile gameing.

Let it be touch based for Dpad + 4 buttons, but give it a R1 and R2 at the top.

Done.

Dont over design it, make it cheap a good solution for mobile gameing (good battery life) = success.

Dont try to compete with apple for thinest phone ever ect.

^ god no.

Stick with android, and just compete on design.

But not for luxury feel ect, make it a gameing smart phone.

The "natural" progression of where handhelds (like the 3DS/Vita) future lays.

What actually went wrong with the Xperia Play?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

No one is gonna trade in their smartphone for a Playstation phone.
