This is huge. If microscopic alien life has developed on Mars, that's a huge deal. Water definitely proved it may still be there.

Exciting stuff for me, but I love space exploration and discovering new knowledge for the sake of it. I admire humanity in these instances.
I swear we already knew this... I remember watching a documentary years ago talking about how they thought there was underwater streams and how they found dried up riverbeds that seemed new

Still I'm skeptical about any kind of life form on Mars, if I remember correctly there's a limit of salt that can be in water so that life forms can form and since it's obvious that there's far less whater in respect to earth (and in rispect to the Earth) it might be simply too salty for life... |
With our current understanding of life, yes. But...that's Earth based lifeforms, it also ignores microbial life, which has proven tolerances to extremes far far beyond any environments on Earth. That's why NASA is being careful not to go near any areas of Mars that could be potentially impacted by microbes/bacteria that cannot be completely wiped off objects we send to other planets.

Ik but I thought that in one of the discovery missions they found liquid whater in the underground :v |
They had images that suggested 'some' liquid was flowing on Mars, but they couldn't say for certain that's what it was. With MRO paying attention from orbit for long periods, using spectral analysis to validate what was exactly flowing, they can now say for certain.
Good time to colonize it by colonists

'Should' and 'will' are far apart when we're talking Galaxies :) I listen to Star Talk all the time, btw. Even Tyson would admit that he can't say for sure. Not that I'm saying for certain it will happen, all I'm pointing out is when you're talking billions of years, many, many unforeseen events can occur. Heck, a planet going supernova at the right angle would potentially strip the atmosphere right off the planet and irradiate all life on Earth. The thought that we'll definitely be around in 5-7bln years is...well, human levels of ego talking :) |
In 5bn years humans will not be humans anymore. The sun would be a Giant and thus the earth would not be there as the sun would occupy that space. Neptune and Pluto would have collided along with other objects colliding, possibly the earth and a comet. In fact in just 1bn years the earth would not be habitable.

The moon is probably a better destination than Mars in case the Earth blows up? Wouldn't the Earth blowing up mean there is a very good chance the moon would go with it though? |
I think by the time the earth blows up the moon would be captured by the sun and become another planet.
