Forums - Gaming Discussion - Publishers need to focus on online multiplayer centric games or else they're going to be f*cked in the future.

Lol at people naming witcher 3 or batman. Look at Titan Fall. A new ip that sold over 5 million and more than witcher 3/batman. Also, it wasn't on the ps4 like these other games. I guarantee you publishers are seeing this. Takes less effort to make these games with a better reward. Only very few single player games are doing well, but they cost a lot more money and time. Look how long it takes GTA5 to be made or Fallout/MGS.

Maintaining a successful online title isn't cheap

Unlike single player that is done when it's done, to have retention of your userbase you need to continueupdating/balancing the title so I'm not sure they're necessarily "cheaper and quicker". Also having online guarantee popularity .

Titanfall was successful, but what other blockbuster online titles can you think of that were online only and sold 5m whilst being new IPs? I think the exclusivity factor and being the "next big thing from the makers of call of duty" were as much to do with Titanfalls success as anything else.

I agree that all games do need to have multiplayer especially if the single player story or campaign isn't very long, but I don't think multiplayer should be the main focus. The main focus should still be on the single player part of the game.

but the younger generation (soon to be the ones deciding our market)

Dont agree with that. Maybe in third world countries.

Western countries getting overaged and so will the gaming community. So, we the adult gamers will decide the market. There need to be easier games, which reflect the higher reaction times of older gamers. And I can see a Single Player mode will be much more prefered from elder gamers because its not that stressful as multiplayer.

We have COD for that. I'm sure younger gamers also like playing single player games.

Well op, your opinion doesn't matter too. lol!

Ehr...? No? Most succesful RPG's are mostly single-player experiences.

The Witcher 3 says hi. The ridiculous success that Fallout 4 is going to have also says hi. Batman: Arkham Knight says hi.

All of those are open world games. Maybe OP meant the non-open world ones.

I almost exclusively only play multiplayer games (I'm not much for singleplayer), but this thread doesn't make much sense...

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

I don't know where the thoughts behind this thread came from. Most games these days do have a multiplayer focus. This is evident by the fact that most single player campaigns in games are far shorter than they were 10-15 years ago.
