BTW, the guy shot himself while he was being chased.

You saw the vid? I couldn't find it. I tried the links in the op but nope.
What sane person records themselves killing others and posts it on the net?
Wow, that's really scary! And he did it so easily as well and nobody even noticed him carrying a gun! And still there are so many American's that don't want the gun ownership laws to change.

It's a lot harder to stick a knife in someone or any other hands on method, especially when other people are around. Doing fatal damage is a lot easier with a gun too. It's hard to seperate cause and effect ofcourse. Is the murder rate in the USA higher because of easy to get guns, or are guns so popular because of the higher murder rate.

It was just on the news here in my country, pretty disurbing, he was just waiting there with his gun until the cameraman filmed the reporter. He was standing very close to them.
Hope he gets beat up daily in jail.

Yet gun-related deaths are much higher in the US than any European country. Overall murder rates are also higher in the USA than continental Europe and Great Britain. In my country Brussels has a big problem with illegal weapons and it nearly cost the life of many people on a Thalys train to Paris (attack was stopped by 3 American tourists and a British person though). So yes, better laws against guns (and the enforcement of said laws) could save many potential lives. The weapon industry has too much influence in the USA and also Belgium (weapon export is one of the most important economical sectors here). |
Well, it's too late to really to do much about legal guns in the US because it's one of our rights to have them. There's nothing wrong with legal guns owned by law abiding citizens. There's other ways to stomp out gun violence but it's hardly mentioned. They can crack down heavily on black market guns, gangs, drug dealers and put all of the police databases on the same network. It's still fairly easy to outrun a warrant issued by a state in the US. Move a couple of states away and the warrant won't show up.

Laws can change. The second amendment was made during a time of "civil" war, so the threat of the British army invading your home was very much real. In that context it is normal that every US citizen has the right to bear arms. In a modern context, with no threat of foreign forces invading your country, it doesn't make sense at all to allow every US citizen the right to bear arms.
It's crazy. Why let a law from the 18th century determine your life? It might not be possible to remove the second amendment from the constitution, but it is possible to add a new amandment that negates the second one...

The murder rate is high because people want to kill people. It's a simple truth.
Someone can steal a car and just run their intended victim over a few times then drive off. If someone knows what they are doing, they can kill someone more easily with knife than a gun. People are more likely to surivive a gun shot than die from it. It really depends on shot placement than the fact that they were hit with a bullet.
Governments for ages have tried to disarm their citizens over and over again. It doesn't work. If someone really wants to kill, they'll use whatever they can. The true problem is the people that are doing the killing, not the weapons.

It's virtually impossible considering the culture and politics of the US. There's no point on fixating on that. It's just a part of american culture that will never change. I prefer solutions that go after the root cause of a problem versus trying to lessen the effects of the problem.

Except any kind of statistic contradicts you on this subject. You do realize you just said that Americans are more murderous than Europeans, right?
In the US police officers have killed more people on duty in the last 3 months than the British police in the last 24 years. No wonder there's so much fear in the USA when just about everyone can get guns.
