To everyone: Super Mario 3D World has nothing to do with this thread, so let's please keep it and other Wii U games out of the conversation.
The last thing we want is for this thread to deteriorate into a console war or metascore pissing contest.
Thank you, all.
After pouring 139 hours into the game and platinum'ing it, I can safely say this game is more akin to a 8'5 - 9 than a 9'5 - 10.
"There has never been a game in the series with such depth to its gameplay, or so much volume in content. The best elements from the past games are here, and the new open-world gameplay adds more to love on top. When it comes to storytelling, there has never been a Metal Gear game that's so consistent in tone, daring in subject matter, and so captivating in presentation. The Phantom Pain may be a contender for one of the best action games ever made, but is undoubtedly the best Metal Gear game there is."
I'm usually pretty down with Gamespot reviews, I thought their review of TLOU was spot on, but I seriously have no idea what this guy was smoking when he wrote this. Story telling!? REALLY!? Best Metal Gear!? REALLY!?

This game wishes its plot twists were as cool as MGS2's.
Teh story does suck. I mean, it's OK but the delivery and pacing are way off. It didn't just dial down the cutscenes to balance out what MGS4 did to reach a middle point, they were just short and very infrequent, so most of the story was delivered through the cassette tapes.
Though, other than the repetitive side ops, the gameplay is awesome and the controls sublime.

It's a great experience. Deserves its high score. |
It's a game from 2012. And it's 2 hours long (quite expensive for what it is).
