No, it's a matter of opinion. Unless you have some kind of evidence to show that the masses wanted King K Rool and doesn't care about fire emblem characters.
K Rool is a crocodile with a crown. Not sure how original I'd call that.
Bowser actually has showed his personality in several games, particularly the Mario RPG series. He is far more recognizable than K Rool. He also has far more attacks to draw from. It's not even close.
Ganondorf also shows personality in a lot of games, has more moves, and again is far more iconic.
Wolf isn't even in this game.
So do you have some sort of evidence to back up your claim that people want K Rool more than these other characters? Cause otherwise, you're talking out of your ass.

You aren't making a lick of sense dude. Mario is a plumber who jumps...Real original design, Donkey Kong is literally just an ape with a tye. Bowser is a dragon turtle. Ganondorf doesn't even fight how he should in Smash, how do you expect that to be a valid counterpoint?
Pull up any character poll for Smash, including the ballot, and you will see Rool as far above and at the top of lists. This is a site about sales, and you would think that people on here would use them as a sorta consenses of what people care about/want to play. Just going by sales, I can safely say not many people care about Fire Emblem or Kid Icarus. Not as many cared about Roy, but bam, he's in there. Far more care about Rool, but again Nintendo's taking the lazy way out because they would have to design a whole new moveset instead of recycling which is why there are so many FE characters in Smash

*Sigh* I wish I had gotten that edit up sooner.
1. Never said anything about Mario or DK being original, or that originality should be the sole criteria. So, that's a strawman argument. And Ganondorf's fighting style is a whole different issue.
2. I'm not sure what poll results you're talking about. The ballot results are not available. Best we have is a reddit thread, but if a random thread on reddit is your evidence, then you just don't know what counts as good data.
2. No, you can't safely say that. Because the most recent sales data we have for a game with K Rool is from 1999. If you think not only that this data is still relevant, but we can also base the game's success or failure solely on how popular King K Rool is then... ummm... that's stupid.
3. You have still provided nothing substantial to show Rool is more popular than any other character. You've just made a string of really baseless assertions about game development, and made weird and random assumptions as to the motivations behind the roster.
So... hate to be accusatory, but this seems like a troll topic meant to bait people into really dumb arguments. If you can prove me wrong with the next post, I'll continue, but if not, I'm going to resist the bait and simply ignore it.

1.) You call Rool unoriginal, generic and "sucky", yet retract that and say it doesn't matter now? Why even include it in your post if you didn't want someone to reply to it and how much of a contridiction it is to the rest of your postes in this thread? There have been huge ballot estimates as well as polls on IGN, GameSpot, Reddit, Escapist and plenty of others. A Nintendo associate even went forth about Rool and Ryu being in the top spots in the first week. Google is your friend.
2.) Yeah exactly, less consoles and less gamers back in '99. Think of all the fans who played DK back in the late 90s who could still possibly be Nintendo fans. Look at Earthbound...Hasn't been in the US since '95
we can also base the game's success or failure solely on how popular King K Rool is then... ummm... that's stupid. Don't know what the fuck you mean by this. Donkey Kong is a popular game and Rool was one of the main characteres and the main villain, which is why he deserves a spot, beyond the fact that the majority of gamers want him in above everyone else. The game is already sold, I'm sure more people would buy Rool as DLC than the other 2 characters that already got in.
4.) So sales of games aren't evidence of the popularity of a particular game? Sales show that most people don't know/haven't played these games, or if they have played them. Good sales = more people know the game and series, thus they are more popular. Is it just a conicedence that Mario is the best selling as well as the most prolific game character? This is basic economics . Surely economics aren't baseless, if that were the case investers would have no job. From an economical standpoint, putting Rool in the game would be a better choice than putting in Roy or Lucas or even Ryu perhaps, granted they aren't lazy and put in the effort to make him good and well designed.
Here's some polls on the net that pretty much exactly prove my point.
