Given how big Candy Crush is, being a clone of that will give you a boost, when you are using such a big IP as Pokemon to kickstart it.

Now, do you think this game achieved this success just because it was free?

It would have sold around 800K-1M by now if it wasn't free. That's good, but not nearly as amazing as some of you guys are claiming this to be.

You didn't answer my question. Do you think this success comes just from being free, or do you think it has something to do with the quality of the game?

It's not free though, is it. Remember when we spent all last year discussing whether PS+ games were free? Do you? You pay £40 for this game in the UK. We can't backtrack on that argument now, can we? Surely not.

It's a completely new game that released on PS+ (that doesn't happen often, I hear people complain about the PS+ game selection all the time), it's an addicting online multiplayer game (so you already need a PS+ subscription to play the game anyway) and it had a good word of mouth (you don't need much to convince people when you say it's free).

Using the 5 million downloads as an argument as to why it's a great game is silly. Plenty of great games out there that bombed anyway. But hey, if you want to use "sales" as an indication of quality be my guest...

Lol, you needed PS+ to play this game online anyway (i.e. the main mode of the game).

The game was free.

I play this game almost every day, I might actually buy the soundtrack so that I'm giving the guys who made it some direct money. Plus, the soundtrack is actually really good.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

You still didn't answer my question. Just give me a straight up answer, yes or no.

Did the quality of this game influence these numbers for the better?

I never said it was a bad game. I'm arguing against the people who claim the game is great and a big success because it was downloaded 5 million times.

If you want to convince me the game is great do so by talking about the actual game, not its sales.

No one has said that. You're just trying to shift the argument in your favour.

It was downloaded 4.5m times because it is a great game. You said it was because it was free.

I'd say they'er kicking themselves for putting it on PS Plus

Not really. I have a hard time believing that this game would pull off those numbers were it not for the fact that is is free to download for PS+ users. The game has been getting a lot of traction from Let's players and streamers but not 5 million sales kind of traction.

So you're saying that it would've been downloaded 4.5 million times if it wasn't free? The only way it could ever reach those numbers was by being free, so what I said is correct. I didn't make any statements about the quality of the game. It's the second game in the franchise and the first one never got this attention. Why? Because it wasn't free.
