Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Windows 10 won't let you delay or prevent Windows automatic updates from installing.

What I am trying to say, not everyone is complaining because they are MS haters.

I am still excited for Windows 10 and I hope the majority will be using it in a year or two. Developers will have less versions of windows to deal with = better programs and apps for everyone, and more importantly, for me.

I always will want a better user experience but forcing ALL updates on your users and offering half-assed solutions isn't the way to go imo.

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

you made this topic way to late. this is already known and a good thing

also you missed this announcement:

that's rough

Windows 7 works wonderfully, whats the incentive of switching up? the updates even on Windows 7 can absolutely wreck the system though and not work well with programs so I've always had it off (not only that but sometimes the updates take FOREVER)

seems lame to force updates on Windows 10

Huh I thought most people have the pro version of windows 8? But yea, sucks for people that dont have windows 8 pro or w7 pro or above. Luckly for me, I got windows 8.1 pro in all 4 of our machines so I am good

Hopefully you understood my opening post, but even Pro users can't prevent updates from being installed. Only delay them for a while.
I'm not sure how the delay method will work, but if it's as usual, then you may not even notice the prompt to delay it before it's installed.

Yea well we will have to see how that works. I personally don't think its that big of a deal overall cause I dont think I have ever had an update on windows 8 that negatively affected windows or bsod me. Not to say that this is a good thing or the right step but I dont even think most people actually even care about the future updates and what they even do. We will have to see how this all plays out though but its not a big deal for me as of right now since majority of the updates do patch important security vulnerabilities but I do agree that it is nice to have the option.

Wait, so it has the potential to just randomly restart my PC while I'm working? That's what matters IMO. I don't care about anything else.

"You may delay the restart of the system but you cannot delay the updates to be installed." It's in the OP, "hidden" in a link.

I would assume it will be like in windows 8.1 where it will only apply the update when u are shutting down or restarting and be able to delay the update by a few days for the pro users otherwise this really will be nonsense
