If it became muslim majority. We haven't spent decades moving away from the more backwards aspects of Christianity only to ruled over by the beliefs of an even more intolerant religion.

Kantor used to complain about the raising muslim population over there. Is it really that bad. I mean I've been to Edinburgh then London back in 2013... it's not that  great! I mean Scottish people are way more polite though!

As many mention... a job opportunity would do it for me. And that happened. I'm actually moving to the United Arab Emirates in less than two weeks. The benefits they are offering me are far more generous than any other job offer I received in the U.S. A lot of people say "degrees aren't worth shit!" I can't help but to disagree somewhat because honestly if it weren't for my degrees and licensures in integrated sciences that I worked my ass off at university for 5 years... I would have never been getting the opportunities I've been getting the last 3 years.

I'm so used to crossing oceans... it's nothing personal against any country. I just love my job and many countries value it by paying fairly.

Congrats! Where in the UAE are you moving to?

The UAE? Means that you won't be holding hands with anyone anytime soon.

I wouldn't mind leaving for a job oppurtunity if the place I was going was nice, but that's not really the same as a reason I'd leave the US and never look back.

I guess my best answer for that would be if education and scientific researching funding decreased to a laughable point proving that the country no longer values research and development. That to me is a clear sign that your government can't think ahead to benefits beyond their own term of office which I find pretty deplorable. So yeah, I think that'd be something that would make me write off the US

That would make you leave? I mean... of course that would be bad, but I don't see much of a direct effect on you personally.

The capital. Abu Dhabi. I hope I understand their dialect. My Arabic is so rusty.

I'm a scientist intending to work in academia, it would definitely have a direct effect on me personally.  Already difficult to keep a lab going and get grand funding these days.  If we stopped being the place people from other countries come to do cutting edge science and instead we send our best and brightest elsewhere I'll probably go wherever that other country is assuming I have the means and I'm not too far along in my career.

Nice. AD is a nice and very wealthy city, not as nice as Dubai but its also less busy. The main negatives are the house and apartment rents being too expensive and the drivers are bad. The weather is also extremely hot and humid! And you don't need to speak Arabic to live there. Most people speak enough English to communicate. Besides, Urdu or hindi are probably more beneficial given the amount of Asians there.

BTW, if you have any questions, I can answer them for you. I lived in the UAE for many years and my parents still live there.
