What would make you leave your country forever?

I guess my best answer for that would be if education and scientific researching funding decreased to a laughable point proving that the country no longer values research and development. That to me is a clear sign that your government can't think ahead to benefits beyond their own term of office which I find pretty deplorable. So yeah, I think that'd be something that would make me write off the US

That would make you leave? I mean... of course that would be bad, but I don't see much of a direct effect on you personally.

I'm a scientist intending to work in academia, it would definitely have a direct effect on me personally.  Already difficult to keep a lab going and get grand funding these days.  If we stopped being the place people from other countries come to do cutting edge science and instead we send our best and brightest elsewhere I'll probably go wherever that other country is assuming I have the means and I'm not too far along in my career.
