Forums - Gaming Discussion - When will come the resale of digital copies ?

I remember European parlament ruling something about digital content being owned, and not licensed, and that said, digital stores had to create some mechanism people could resell their digital content, since if its yours you have the right to sell.

It was some time ago, but it was a real turn-around of the practice that digital content was " rental for lifetime", and I think its the way to go. If its yours you can sell, imagine if Hyundai puts locks in their cars so you can't sell or buy a used one ?

we should first work on a better Refund system first.. (yeah steam refund) So we can punish for more easily lazy devs with their broken games and day one patches..

Getting a system work between consumers is a step after that..

I have been reselling my digital PS4 purchases since console's launch.
I find it a much easier process than buying and reselling discs, because I never have to deal with postage or damaged goods, and the playments are instant and secure, plus the games do not decrease in value much.
That is one of the biggest reasons why I'm almost 100% digital this generation.

It will never work because the nature of digital games give them no resell value. They can change the rules all they want. The day there is a market for buying albums from your friends' iTunes is the day there will be a market for digitally resold games.

In other words, there will never be a market for resold digital games.

It won't but XBL and PSN MUST implement digital refunds under the same conditions as Steam. PSN and XBL are criminally expensive market places for games and no refund policy makes it impossible for me to buy games digitally unless I am absolutely certain I am going to like it. All my digital games, except for past gen remakes that I've played before, are from PSN+ monthly "free" games. I would never have bought those PSN+ games, just too risky that I will pay good money and end up not liking the game. With PSN+ there's still the risk of the games being bad, but over the course of a year you are all but guaranteed to get your money's worth in games you actually like. Same goes for GWG no doubt.

I could see like a refund system of sorts. Like for every hour you play on a game the value of your refund drops by 5% or something like that...but how can you sell/transfer digital shit to another person?

Just like regular software.. With a serial number .. Seller Deactivates it online, sells the key and the new user can register it again with they serial number.. Server from developer checks if there is only one copy active with the serial number

Probably never. It's one of the cons to buying digital. If you want to resell your games, buy physical.

It's something the EU have been looking into. I think it's going to become a statutory right to be able to relinquish a license. Whether it's to the "highest bidder" or just that you can "trade" for a new title from the same vendor I don't know.

Either way, there's no way you can convince someone to hand £60 over for a download that they can then do nothing with if they don't like it.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I think it will happen eventually but it will have to be done in such a way that it makes the publishers happy. Most likely by giving them a cut of the resale
