Engadget/Joystiq is basically saying that the Wii-U is the best of the three consoles and they are profusely insisting that they were all dead wrong about the console and Nintendo was right all along.

In other words... Dreamcast 2.

Haha we will have to agree to disagree!  Overpriced, underpowered, no games, and launched a year too late.  That's my opinion and you are free to yours.

I think you're just misunderstanding me. I'm not personally commenting on the two consoles. I'm saying that the whole "we don't want this piece of shit console.... flash forward 10 years.... this console was fucking AWESOME" thing will probably happen for the Wii-U. I think OTHER people will feel this way... as it's already beginging.

Yeah.... It wasn't his opinion, it's what is said in the article....

It should be noted that for a large portion of those 34 months, the Dreamcast was officially dead (though also being sold at $100, then $50). I wasn't even aware that the Dreamcast was on sale for that long. I wonder where they sourced that number? As far as I know, the Dreamcast was gone from store shelves by January 2002, or about 28 months.

Oh without a doubt some people will think this...BUT - You know what the Dreamcast wasn't very good!  There I said it!

It was underpowered, undersupported, and while it had some cool new features like MP and the swappable controller card, none of those "Revolutionary" features worked nearly as well as they did on the PS2 and Xbox.  Also its controller lacked 2 analog sticks which is a massive mistake.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

I knew that.  I was speaking to the articles.  I know I wasn't clear though, sorry :/

There was loads of Dreamcast love before the system even died. It was a gamer's console, and didn't even sell that badly for it's time. In the system's twilight years there was plenty of articles and gamers who looked at the console fondly. The main issue it faced was SEGA's financials, which were drained by years of poor decisions and a struggling arcade industry. Nintendo's lucky they are coming off of the Wii instead of the Gamecube, so they've got loads of cash reserves.

It had loads of great games and was a cheap console.  You were 8 years old when it came out so excuse me if I don't value your opinion very much.

People really need to do their research first.

I love how everybody just ignores this.

nobody is ignoring it, it's just wrong.  NPD has Wii U past dreamcast.  Are you comparing this NPD to vgchartz numbers that include all of the americas or using shipment data instead of sell through?  That's probably what you did.

Well you guys, if we can be sure of anything, it's that the wii u is going to end up with very expensive games and is found to be a bitch to collect for ten years from now. Every nintendo console has ridiculously expensive nintendo published titles. This will obviously be no different, and in fact, I think we can be sure that it will be much worse.
