Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo is expecting to ship 20 million NX consoles in the first year

Can they reach the goal?

Of course it will 64 17.58%

They're insane... 300 82.42%

Total:364

The NX device will have to be groundbreaking or affordable, maybe even both to do this!

It won't be 150 LMAO. Some of you are out to lunch.

Why is it impossible? How about instead of being a smart ass, back up what u say with some reasoning?

There is nothing to backup..it is physically impossible to have a console launch at 150 today...the 3ds is still mmore expensive. You are the one who claimed 150 , the onus is on you to prove it. List parts that can be in a  modern game platform that can launch at $150..I am waiting.

Waiing for our reasoning on what kind of hardware could launch at $150 and not lose buckets of money.

Nvidia Tegra 3 T33-P-A3
Quad-core 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore
Nvidia GeForce ULP @ 520 MHz
1 GiB DDR3-1600 SDRAM
8 GB eMMC flash memory

I will go ahead and explain the joke rather than accidentally trigger some kind of argument. It's an Ouya.

The rumor that states 20 million also states Nintendo is aiming for a $150 price tag so any discussion about the sales figures have to be based around a device or devices that cost $150.

I believe it's also the same rumor that states NX will have ever so slightly improved specs over Wii U, similar to the leap from GC to Wii. Wii U costs $300, a $50 price cut to coincide with Mario Maker in September is plausible, a further $50 cut by replacing the Gamepad with an improved Wii Remote, and cutting costs on components by going for more mass produced parts instead of the highly customized parts based on GC components, also save a little bit by getting rid of the disk drive and fan could put it at $150.

As a more serious answer, it depends on what you mean by "modern." The 2DS was able to launch at $130 two years ago, likely at a respectable profit. It's not a stretch to imagine a similar machine with more modern parts could release at the same price in 2016.

Digitimes is the one stating 20 million shipments but they never said anything about $149.99.

The only guy saying $149.99 is this guy:

https://kevincallahangames.wordpress.com/2015/06/29/exciting-times-coming-next-year/

And he's fairly dubious. I don't think he's gotten anything correct in the past.

Well I did hear rumors about it being REALLY CHEAP as like 150 dollars or something.  So if it sells really well like the Wii with that kind of price...So it's possible if both rumors are true.

If that is truly their expectation, and they are being realistic, then this is as close to confirmation that NX is a handheld as one can get.

Well the people predicting this can't be stupid, or they wouldn't be in a job, so perhaps they have something really good line up, launching at a great price.

Or perhaps they are stupid.

Well, lets not forget that these are the very same people who forecasted 9 million units of WiiUs for the first fiscal year.

Now I wouldnt say they were stupid. Just a little bit..  "out of touch" with the current market. I really hope they learned their lesson.
