Ok let me answer your question with another one.
Do NA and EU get bored with shooters?
Why do they keep buying the same mechanics only with a little of changes?

Barely winning is not where the mighty 3DS should be.

Have you actually looked at the numbers, Ryan?

Ryan what has happened to you...Seriously!
How much sales do you expect in Japan,3DS is in its fifth year,27k baseline and being top-selling hardware is pretty good,it has started facing saturation,it's at 19m currently and it's probably trending for 25m lifetime in Japan becoming the third best selling hardware in Japan after ds and Gameboy, which is great given the invasion of mobile gaming in Japan...

There is a problem if you have very high expectations...

Yokai Watch became japanese Call Of Duty

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

Yes, but we see far more variety everywhere else. Where the yearly Madden and COD make little difference.

What more variety?

So far in Japan these games have released for 3DS this year:

The Legend of Legacy, Lost Heroes 2, Majora's Mask 3D, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, Lego City Undercover, Pripara & Pretty Rhythm, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Theatrhythm Dragon Quest, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, Girls Mode 3, Bravely Second: End Layer, Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, Stella Glow, Rhythm Heaven: The Best+, Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden, Return to PopoLoCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale, Fire Emblem If, and a whole bunch of anime games that I don't feel like listing.

All of these games appeared on Media Create, and none of them are Pokemon or Yokai. I'm not sure what more variety you need.

It is Japan. They love games like Pokemon and Final Fantasy since decades.

Add Dragon Quest to that and visual novel dating sims.

Visual Novels and Dating Sims are niche.

The only one selling over 100k are anime/LN adaptations.

For weeks they were close. But after seeing you tell noname or basel the 3DS is your favorite system this gen I doubt anything I say on my cell phone will sway you.

I don't let bias blind me in the way of sales, that's a terrible retort, if it is one.

I have to ask you, are you being serious right now? I don't care about the weekly sales, and if I did that would still make me right as "close" doesn't matter. The 3DS has sold over 18 million units in Japan and the closest competitor is the Vita which has sold over 4 million. Let that sink in.

I get the feeling that Youkai Watch is going to flame out. Level 5 wants their money now rather than over time.

As far as Pokemon goes, I expect Nintendo to give it the full Madden treatment eventually.

Yo-kai Watch changes up the gameplay more often than Pokémon with its sequels, at least for now.
If Pokémon is still alive after 20 years of heavy milking and extreme stagnancy... Then why couldn't a Pokémon inspired game do the same?
