Forums - Nintendo Discussion - amiibo leads in interactive gaming toy sales for May NPD

In the U.S., amiibo led the way in dollar sales out of all interactive gaming toy offerings during the month of May. It’s the first time since the figures launched that this feat was accomplished.

Thanks to amiibo’s strong performance, interactive gaming toy sales as a whole rose 73 percent in the U.S. last month.

NPD Group’s Liam Callahan said:

“May 2015 was a positive month for video game accessory sales, with dollar sales up 20 per cent. The top 5 accessory types: Interactive Gaming Toys; point cards; gamepads; headsets/headphones; and power supplies, all experienced year-over-year growth. Interactive gaming toy sales experienced stellar growth of 73 per cent in May 2015 as Nintendo’s amiibo accessories led dollar sales for the first time since launch.”

Interesting news! Seems that Nintendo regularly rolling out new waves of figures is working for them. And I'm sure the launch of the Splatoon line helped quite a bit.

Just to be sure. That`s 73% up over April or over May 2014?

Congratz anyway, great news.

Over May I think reading the article.

And yeah, wouldn't have thought that amiibos would be this successful!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Dang, amiibos have really proven to be successful for Nintendo, especially with all these people trying to collect them all.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I applaud Nintendo for trying something new for them like Amiibos. I'm glad they're selling really well. I'm however, not glad about how they've been handling stock and distribution of the Smash figures. I don't hear much about the Mario Party figures being out of stock, just the Smash ones. I wonder if other lines will be as popular though.

Congrats!

I remember lots of people here at VGC saying that Amiibos would fail or not do so well. Welp, I guess they were wrong... Amiibos are here to stay.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I think that limited stocks for amiibos help drive up demand and sales, causing them to sell out for each wave.. really good marketing tactic but it really frustrates consumers

Seems like going back to their children's toy roots is working well for Nintendo.
