What is Nintendo's biggest franchise? I personally thought it was going to be Splatoon (or soon will be) going by how many people on this board was going crazy over it. However, I think it floped.

I'll give a tiny hint. It starts with a P and ends with okemon.

Get it? In fact, I'll give the top 5 franchises by Nintendo in terms of sales:

1. Pokemon

2. Super Mario

3. Mario Kart

4. The Legend of Zelda

5. Animal Crossing

Also, nice job trying to divert your false claim with a piss poor attempt at slandering Splatoon's sales (which, by the way, we only have one region so far and it exceeded almost everyone's expectations so it most certainly was not a flop). Clearly, this thread is troll bait and you're misinformed as fuck.

No, Mario Kart is Nintendo's biggest franchise regarding console (we are talking about consoles and not handhelds). And it isn't hard to exceed everyone's expectation with splatoon sells because we only expect to sell like a 1k or so. I will admit I didn't ecpect it to sell as much, but I forgot to factor the fact that Nintendo has only one or two retail games this year.

Super Mario is a console franchise. It has sold more than Mario Kart. Please read, will you?

The hyperbole is real in your comment. Grow up. Find something that you might enjoy in life, because you look pathetic right now.

Wrong, super mario is above Pokemon!:p And super mario is a subfranchise, franchise is Mario(Don't split 3D and 2D mario they are both under super mario sub-franchise !:P  Also Donkey kong must be the 5th in your list....

Pokemon is first. He was splitting Mario in the first place (with Mario Kart) so that's why I continued with Super Mario (which I define as all the platforming games starring Mario, 3D and 2D - just not the spinoff franchises).

Also, DK is 5th I think, you're right. I believe Animal Crossing would be 6th then.

Mario July 9, 1981 509.4922 million

No they are second not first,Super Mario series: 297.88 million [n 1]  i

Pokémon February 27, 1996 270.8 million[4]

From wiki!:P

Also I forgot the wii series! If you're a going to use mario as sub franchises, you have mario party, mario sport series which are above animal crossing, also let's not forget super smash bros and kirby!:P

No problem dear! I thought that you were doing it because some are splitting 2D and 3D mario, while that's not good since both belong to super mario series!:P

lol don't worry this needs an update too,It's not very outdated but it needs an update!:P I think it misses some sales of wii u games from the last two or three quarter results and full fiscal year results!:P

Nooope :P

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

Why don't we wait and see how there next console does? Even if it doesn't sell that much, as long as it brings in a decent profit is all that matters for Nintendo.

Oh dear, thanks that's the point,I was going to say a lot about it but I'm drowsy, maybe tomorrow if the thread is alive...

Gamecube at 22m isn't a great seller but it was a money maker even with the fast two big price drops(Well it was still fairly higher than its manufacturing cost),What If  the gamecube was at 60m+ but with bleeding money? Commercial success, financials flop... We have paradigms of killer-sellers,but with no profits, huge money losses or low profits.

I think in buisness they care for the financial perfomance!Nintendo Home consoles will be doomed when turn to be consntantly utter financial flops, for example this could be happen with a console being sold fairly under the manufacturing cost after big price cuts and that at an early time,e.g having 389$ manufacturing cost and being sold at 320$,selling 1m in one month, wow perfect but that translates into,69.000.000$ loss!Nintendo can survive from many  financial flops with continuous annual losses in the  extend and way more of the two considerable but not big losses in 2012 & 2013,that have been made mainly because of wii u,with the cash it has in the banks, other tangible assets and properties, however it's not very possible to make loss forever while you're still a giant and smart, you can always save the things, for instance nintendo was profitable in the last fiscal year,so no home console abandoning...

wii u was the first ever nintendo home console to make a loss but that was reversed, now its profitable. Nintendo had  never made a loss before  2010 when the first one happened with 3DS just in its first year because of stupid moves!Ergo, they hardly ever making losses...

As for the software...What the hell? it perfoms very well and in some cases impressively, and the big advantage, selling successfully your own software to your own hardware!Money,Money...

Well if wii u was a crazy seller,I would be joyful but If then learning that it has lost much money then I would be depressed!

All kinds of wrong in the OP.

Nintendo's 1st party titles have historically sold well. Not only do they sell a lot, but they are known for showing really good legs. 3rd parties aren't on board with the Wii U for a multitude of reasons: small installbase, different architecture from the PS4/XBO's x86, etc. In addition, Nintendo is a financially efficient company. Even though the Wii U isn't selling so hot, the company is still making healthy profits.

Haven't heard that one before
