I think I've never bought a piece of gear or a weapon, I'm level 15 in Novigrad and have like 9000 gold.

Don't really know how I'm supposed to spend it, but I guess by the endgame I'll figure it out.

I am in Novigrad too, but I am in level 5 :D.  And just did the quest from swords and dumplings.  I havent done any story quest aside of meeting with the emperor and talk about Ciri.  Bloody dwarfs I hate them lol XD

The equipment you have right now is something you forged or found in chests?

You are making it too complicated for yourself. Why don't you just follow the path the game gives to you?

Equipment: I mix of both I guess. If I'm able to craft an armor or sword of the level I am right now it usually surpasses anything I've found so far. But then you might not have anything better until 3 levels above and inbetween those two pieces of armour you might find something better inbetween. (I hope I could explain it good enough).

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

You don't really need to craft weapons either. I did once and found better weapons within the hour. The griffin school gear lasted a bit longer yet I also found better armor laying around. (I do often sneak, grab and run, looting stuff from high lvl guarded treasure)

I only craft alchemy recipes now. I have patterns for better armor yet can't wear them until lvl 14. I'll probably find better stuff before then. My main 'problem' right now is that all the merchants are poor. I can't offload as much loot as I would like and I have over 7000 crowns with nothing to spend it on.

True, but id rather use my resources as I haven't found the bag upgrade yet to hold more weight like in part two. If I have a lot of supplies on me its much better for me to part with it to save myself the extra pounds. I sell whatever swords I take to make even more than I should. Sometimes after taking out a whole gang i'll return to even the poorest town and profit 200 crowns off of them at 15 crowns per weapon. I feel bad for the businesses, because I actually see how much money they have and as I keep selling they keep losing (LOL).

I have 90 weight allowence atm (30 from saddle bags, funny since I never use the horse)

I've been selling all crafting materials except monster components and rare flowers since you can buy them anyway. And I sell any monster parts and magic dusts I have more than 6 of. I kept running over the weight limit and could only pick up 2 or 3 swords at a time with all the crafting crap. I don't bother anymore with the dismantle option, just sell all that stuff. I also started getting rid of all the documents, books and contracts since my inventory is still slow. I wish there were sorting options and more categories instead of a long list of oils, concoctions, potions and bombs all thrown together.
I've been cleaning out every merchant I have found, buy all the gwent cards just so I can sell more. I haven't even once played gwent. Some pieces of armor I snatched from a lvl 33 quest are hard to sell though at 650 crowns profit, same with some of the high level ores and dust.

There is just so much stuff in the game and I can't resist hitting every ? on the way to the next quest location.

A kleptomaniac's dream or a completionist's worst nightmare?

Just one of the many high level monsters I robbed blind under their nose

I'll have to come back for you later.

I've never had any problems with money in the game yet, all I ever seem to buy is repairs.

I made one mistake and that was trying to do the right thing in a mission and what did I get? nothing.

Sometimes you think you are doing the right thing and in the end ...

I realized that.  I will become super greedy from now on.

I don't buy weapons and armor on principle alone. Did your friend not see those prices? Fuck those prices... Those smiths are scam artists.

Great Thread!

I havent noticed the prices of the weapons until now, WOW! Fucking Rip-Off!

Im currently at Level 12 with the Griffin Armor and im happy with it. There are common and magic armors that maybe have a higher armor stat, but it doesnt have the perks of a Witcher armor, and even Relic armors. The same happens with weapons, some have a higher damage stat but lack special features which i find more importante than raw damage.

My advice is this: dont let yourself fool with raw numbers because the system is more deep than just "Armor" and "Damage".

Also, DONT FUCKING BUY ANYTHING from merchants!!! Just take their money by selling any weapon/armor that you dont use. Lastly, DONT SELL your crafting materials!!!

Yeah, you find good weapons pretty frequently, and there's also crafting. No need to buy weapons from merchants.

What about supporting your local artisan? Sven the Weapon Merchant has a family to feed, you know.

Money is hard to get ? Dude i have 13000 gold and barely use gold xD

Other things people is starting should know:

Do the quests by level, dont do a level 10 quest before a level 5 because you might lose something or fail some quests this way.

You can get those bag to carry more by doing horse races BUT there is one dude that sell a 100 saddlebag !!! In Novigrad !!! Go buy it now !!!

on very hard is quite hard to get money
