No offense, but this is a pretty silly question. You are on a website that appeals to gamers who care about sales charts (chartz is in the website's name). So if a large portion of the appeal of this site is to compare sales numbers, of course a console reaching some sales milestone for the first time in a long time is going to matter to the people on this site (namely gamers).

If it doesn't matter to you, instead of asking a question that trivializes the interest of the majority of people who come to this site, why not just ignore a post like this?

Saying the PS4 has 50% of the marketshare as the marketshare in gaming is more than just those three consoles. Home Console Marketshare =/= Marketshare. The marketshare the TC is wanting to talk about is the home console marketshare, a single group in the entire marketshare which is where his fallacy is. he never defined exactly which marketshare it is and instead just labelled it "marketshare". I know its picky but it is stuff like this that skews data which give people gounds to argue something that is not entirly true regardless if it is for gaming or not.

PS4 software sales for 4 april are 97.4 million. Xone + WiiU are at 101 million....Software sales will reach possible 50% soon aswell (and that one is more impressive imo).

Last time I checked underneath PS4 it says 50.4%?

Saying that the 3DS has a crazy market share of 83.4% isn't wrong either. 

Like others pointed earlier, we should count mobile phones and PC if we follow your logic. It's irrelevant. 

When you talk about marketshare, you talk about a product and its competitors, not others products who have the same use. Usually, when talking about cars, you even separate them by type or use : small city cars, SUVs, etc... 

Yes, and I still don't agree with how VGchartz does it either since gaming is much more than just those 3 consoles, however I guess VGcharts really only deals with these 3 companies with the occasional articles on the side. But really, I always felt that VG charts should lump them all together or better define it. Even more so that the last gen consoles are still selling as well, they'd be in the same marketshare.

And yet the handhelds would still compete with the homeconsles as there are people who buy 1 or the other depending on what interests them.

Again, to follow your logic mobile and PC should be lumped in. That's not how it works. We have the home console market and the handheld gaming market. 2 completely different markets. 

PS4 has reached 50% market share among the 8th gen. We're talking about it's market, stop trying to spin.
