Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii U version of Project CARS facing troubles, likely cancelled

They've probably looked at the Wii U install base, noticed that most Ninty fans aren't sim racer fans, looked at the work required to get it to the acceptable standard, and it perhaps just didn't add up.

It's a real shame for the game and Wii U owners, but that's business.

I see this post a good deal and while the sentiment is generally true, this game was funded by gamers including WiiU owners.

Slightly Mad studios are in a position to make money off this game, in part, due to WiiU owners. If they felt WiiU wasn't going to be technically our financially viable then they shouldn't have committed to it in the first instance.

They should refund peoples money.

Finally they have managed to come up with some convenient excuses. Took them long enough.

Lol. But if the game was canned for the 360 and PS3, its trouble for the Wii U.

HEY. LISTEN.

DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION?

THIS GAME WAS NOT FUNDED THROUGH KICKSTARTER.

WII U VERSION WAS NOT A STRETCH GOAL.

SLIGHTLY MAD IS NOT LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO RELEASE A WII U VERSION.

THANK YOU FOR READING.

Guess no one heard you but me

The big issue is the cpu, we know its a triple cpu identical to the original wii cpu but running at 1.25ghz. It's a basic 32bit risc processor from the last century and doesn't compete in performance with 360 or ps3 because those consoles while having slightly less performance by mhz run their cpu's at 3.2ghz not 1.25ghz and so its an easy win for them.

this "basic risc procesor from last century" achive ~14,8 GFlops at 1,24 gHz, when 8 Core 1,6ghz jaguar from ps4 has ~ 30 Gflops.

Haha, at least they gave 6 month's "notice" to cushion people for the blow.

Still doubt this would have sold more than a few 100,000s tbh though. However as predictable as this was it's still a shame that it means yet another Nintendo format Sim Racer likely drops off the radar. Last decent one I can think of was R: Racing Evolution on the Cube. I know Japan also got Auto Modellista. Can't think of any Wii Racing Sims other than maybe System 3's Ferarri Challenge? though I'm sure there were probably one or two that slipped through.

Even though I now have a PS4 as well as a Wii U, I shall not buy this game on principle. I will not line their pockets at the expense of all those enthusiastic Wii U fans who helped fund this project. I feel so much better that I chose Driveclub over Project Cars this weekend.
Off topic- Driveclub is a fantastic racer.

I'm debating wheter to buy driveclub or project cars.  How is the drive club online portion?

Driveclub is great, obviously at launch there were problems, but that's all sorted now. Im lucky to buy it later on, with all the free DLC cars and tracks its going to keep me going for a very long time.

This. Hell I was one of the poor mugs who had Drive Club near launch. However, it's a completely different type of game to Project CARS. Personally I prefer arcade racers, so I'd say Drive Club is the one to get (it's the best "Simcade" racer since Project Gotham!) however if you want simulation Project CARS is currently the way to go on PS4.

It baffles me how people think developers purpousely make decisions to lose money. If they ax the game the most plausible explanation is that it wouldn't make roi. So suck it up or ask Nintendo to pressure, support or fund the port. MS gone to battle to diminish the gap to ps4, while Nintendo keeps scratching and fans complains of devs.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

How is this a surprise. They can't even make it stable 60fps on PS4/XBONE (or 60fps at all)

it actually does on ps4 and sometimes on xbox one.  You can configure the effects and number of cars to stress test it though, in which case, you can get them down to the mid 40s.  Wii U does hit hit the performance of the PS4 and the Wii U is running at a quarter of the resolution of the PS4... and they still want to scale back the visuals...
