    During the Take-Two financial conference call for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2015, the publisher announced estimates for combined sales of PS4 and Xbox One.

According to the research firm IDG, that Take-Two trusts for its estimates, both consoles combined sold 34 million units by the end of the quarter (March 31st, 2015).

The firm also forecasts over 50 million units sold by the end of this fiscal year, and 110 million by 2019.

I remember that other report a couple weeks ago where someone said consoles would sell 200 million by 2019 (including wii u), so 110 million is not even close (add another 20 for wii u). I think 110 is too low, maybe more like 140 million.

well i assume the 34 million is just shipment numbers for ps4 and xb1. I don't think they know any more than we do.

IDG is the trusted company of choice for numerous companies worldwide. You may have heard of IDC who track mobile phone sales, same company. 

They use NPD & Gfk numbers as well as other numbers from manufacturers plus their own estimates of course. They provide forecasts and general trend data to clients as well. They recently released their 2015 whitepaper which is where this report is from. 

34m is PS4 and XB1 sales through April 2015. Sold through is what is being estimated here. 

These guys are trustworthy.

Sold through to end users. 

We know that PS4 was 20.2m as of March 1st 2015. 

 

Just a guess but I'd say that PS4 was over 21.5m in the report above.

IDG doesn't just "use" NPD & GfK numbers....they're official partners with The NPD Group + GfK Group + Enterbrain (Famitsu).

So they have a complete set of worldwide sell-through data.
