IDG is the trusted company of choice for numerous companies worldwide. You may have heard of IDC who track mobile phone sales, same company. 

They use NPD & Gfk numbers as well as other numbers from manufacturers plus their own estimates of course. They provide forecasts and general trend data to clients as well. They recently released their 2015 whitepaper which is where this report is from. 

34m is PS4 and XB1 sales through April 2015. Sold through is what is being estimated here. 

These guys are trustworthy. 

IDG doesn't just "use" NPD & GfK numbers....they're official partners with The NPD Group + GfK Group + Enterbrain (Famitsu).

So they have a complete set of worldwide sell-through data.
