Forums - Movies & TV - End of an era? Harry Shearer (Flanders, Smithers, Mr. Burns, Skinner etc.) Leaves Simpsons

Source

It looks like after over 25 years one of the most recognizable voices in The Simpsons will be leaving due to a contract dispute. The show is due to go on for another two series' at least, but...how will it work without almost all of the key male characters?

Welp.

Riki in Pizza.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Man, he was such a big part of the show. I wonder what'll happen now without the voice actor of some pretty big characters.

Wow. Damn. So will this be the end of the Simpsons?
Or will the family just relocate to Shelbyville and start over?

This is sad news. The show was really entertaining, and it still is, but they can't quite recapture the charm of the first few seasons. I liked the direction the last few seasons took, but I just hope they don't end the legacy of a show that kept running for more than two decades with a whimper.

I guess they'll lessen the roles of some of those characters and find someone to replace the voices?
But no matter what you do it just won't be the same.

I know I don't watch the new episodes of the Simpsons anymore but this is very depressing.

eh, just get a good replacement and it will be fine. Will take some getting used to sure, but look at some of the older episodes and you'll notice even the main characters (the Simpsons themselves) voices have changed a lot over the years, people get used to it.

This would normally be the solution, but the problem you have is that he voiced so many characters and it's happened for 25 years as well. Finding someone to replace all characters and sound close enough to not be jarring is very difficult (he did McBain through to Skinner, so that's quite a wide range).

One possibility is to get multiple replacements...but, well, then it soon becomes infeasible.

Might as well cancel it

eh, Pokemon replaced the entire cast of voice actors and one point and that went fine. No reason the Simpsons couldn't replace all of his characters. I'd rather they do that than remove those characters at least.

Perhaps but there's a difference between The Simpsons and Pokemon. Restructuring the show now is a poor idea.
