Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony Running Celebratory Promotion for Portuguese Players; Get a PS4 for 20 Interest Free Payments

Sony are celebrating a bit of a milestone in Portugal: the firm recently sold 100,000 consoles in the country.

Not happy with just sitting back and celebrating the Japanese corporation are pushing the PS4 even harder by offering would-be players the opportunity to get their hands on a PS4 in a very affordable fashion.

Instead of paying a lump-sum for the console, customers can opt to pay in 20 interest-free installments of 20 Euros, totaling €400 – the standard price of a PS4 in most of mainland Europe, though there are deals to be found.

What’s interesting is that the promotion runs until June 21st – that’s around a week after E3 if you’re wondering.

The interest fee plan is pretty cool for people who can't afford a large amount up front.

Hmm... Perhaps a test market? I wonder how sales would react if, rather than a price cut in the states they offered a payment plan instead.

Considering the target audience of poor high school and university students, I would imagine that quite a lot of people would jump at it. Would be very difficult for Sony to collect, because I imagine very few have any credit at all.

Hey I'm Portuguese but honestly I would rather pay up front, I guess this is for those who can't though.

Yeah true but I'd imagine a credit check is mandatory, or you would be signing up for a PlayStation credit card and then purchasing through that - remember, Sony's biggest form of income comes from their credit service in Japan. Im sure they know their way around the block.

This is smart for students that might not be able to pay it all upfront.

Interesting, very interesting. I think this would be massive if they did this in the US once PlayStation Vue is launched nation wide. Basically any way they can imitate the successful buisness model of the cell phone, internet, and cable tv market is a good thing for gamers. This could honestly be the thing that moves PlayStation from 150M to 250M users per gen.
